Business Intelligence Developer (Data Engineer) The Business Intelligence Developer (Data Engineer) works closely with business units and technical teams to understand, develop, improve, and maintain BI systems. Leveraging data, the developer transforms metrics, automated reports, and dashboards into actionable insights, ensuring data quality, integrity, and effective communication with internal clients. Essential Job Duties / Responsibilities Develops a deep familiarity with a variety of data sources including transactional databases, data warehouses, internal tools, and external integrations. Develops data programs that extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from the data warehouse, ensuring that architecture and development follow data warehouse best practices. Collaborates with DW architects, data architects, hardware/software engineers, DBAs, application vendors, and managed services to guarantee enterprise DW solutions are reliable, scalable, flexible, and low maintenance. Creates reports, dashboards, and tools using SQL, Python, SSRS, and QlikView, and other tools. Owns data quality and integrity, proactively identifying issues and coordinating fixes. Partners with business stakeholders to understand requirements and provide tailored dashboards and visualizations. Documents existing processes, architectures, and code. Mentors lower-level developers and analysts as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or modified at the manager’s discretion. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Independent work capability and collaboration with teams Self‑directed motivation with the ability to follow direction from others Strong data management skills Experience with ETL processes Python and SSIS experience is a large plus Strong analytical and quantitative skills Project management skills Excellent problem‑solving skills with attention to detail Proficiency in written and verbal communications and presentations for all organizational levels Skilled in developing Business Intelligence and Analytics solutions Strong interpersonal skills for partnership, influence, consultation and collaboration at all levels Ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced, changing environment with exceptional time management and organizational skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other related software Willingness and ability to travel locally, regionally and nationwide up to 10% Fluency in English (spoken and written) Independent judgment in the use and exercise of job duties Education and Experience Criteria BA/BS degree in Computer Science, MIS, Business Administration, or related field required (additional experience may be considered on a year‑for‑year basis) Master’s level education with a combination of technical and business background is a plus Minimum of 1 year of ETL and/or SQL development experience required Minimum of 1 year of RDBMS experience (MySQL, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.) strongly preferred Minimum of 1 year of healthcare industry experience (or equivalent educational background) preferred Experience programming with a high‑level scripting language (Python, Perl, C#, etc.) Experience working with reporting and analytic tools (QlikView and SSRS strongly preferred) Proven experience gathering business unit requirements and creating solutions Experience in query tuning and database engine optimization desired Experience with database programming, stored procedures, data imports and exports desired Familiarity with Medicare Advantage industry desired Pay Range $83,638 – $119,482 (base hourly rate or annual salary).
