Facilities Maintenance Technician

The Facilities Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the church by ensuring that all facilities, equipment, and grounds are safe, functioning, and welcoming. This position is responsible for the ongoing maintenance and upkeep of Church properties while providing exceptional service and support to staff, volunteers, congregation members, and guests.

Positive and professional in all interactions with staff, volunteers, vendors, and guests, they are a good steward of the church resources, using facilities, equipment, and materials responsibly and with care.

Key responsibilities include facility maintenance and repairs, such as troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building systems. They perform repairs on electrical equipment, including light fixtures, pumps, coffee makers, and similar devices. They repair and maintain plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, faucets, and drains. They perform minor repairs and maintenance on gas-powered equipment. They install and repair hardware including door locks, hinges, closers, and related components. They assist with scheduled preventative maintenance programs and complete general maintenance tasks associated with daily church operations.

Volunteer coordination includes working effectively alongside volunteers to accomplish maintenance and facility projects. They provide a positive, encouraging, and rewarding volunteer experience. They promote teamwork and help volunteers develop confidence and ownership in assigned tasks.

Event support includes setting up and tearing down tables, chairs, staging, and equipment for church events and ministry activities. They assist with furniture relocation and room reconfigurations. They assemble and install equipment, furnishings, and event-related materials as needed.

Safety and facility appearance involve maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment throughout the facility and grounds. They identify and report safety concerns, maintenance issues, and potential hazards. They support facility safety standards and best practices. They report unsafe conditions to the Facilities Director.

Grounds and seasonal maintenance include assisting with lawn care, mowing, trimming, and landscaping projects. They maintain and repair irrigation systems. They perform pond maintenance and treatment using approved products. They assist with snow removal, including shoveling, snow blowing, and salting. They install and remove seasonal decorations, including Christmas lighting and displays.

Schedule: Full-time position (40 hours per week). Typical schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00/7:30 a.m. – 3:30/4:00 p.m. Daytime training schedule may be required for up to three months. Occasional weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required to support special events and ministry activities. Flexibility is required based on weather conditions and ministry needs.

Physical requirements include the ability to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, pull, and lift throughout the workday. They frequently use hands, arms, and fingers to operate tools and equipment. They are able to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Exposure to dust, cleaning products, odors, and other environmental conditions common to maintenance work is expected. They are able to hear and communicate effectively. They are able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally and 50 pounds repeatedly.

Qualifications include strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. Experience with building maintenance, repairs, and facility operations is preferred. Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and plumbing systems is preferred. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship are required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary. Ability to work independently and as part of a team is required. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions is required. Strong organizational and time-management skills are necessary. Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, is required.

High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the church is required.
