Behavioral Health Clinical Associate

Summary of Job Functions
The BHCA oversees the delivery of services and supports to individuals in accordance with each individual's identified goals as well as The Arc's Mission Statement and Guiding Values. The BHCA will participate in the coordination of care, individual support, case load management and assist individuals in achieving their goals in their residence, community or agency setting. The BHCA will work as a Direct Support Professional and/or a Case Manager to fit individuals served and business needs. The BHCA is accountable to the person receiving supports, their team, and the agency.
Essential Job Functions
- Promote and implement support in accordance with each individual's Treatment Plan as well as The Arc's Mission Statement and Value Guiding Service Principles.
- May supervise or assist the individual in monitoring their medications and health care needs.
- Use personal vehicle daily to provide one on one services to support individuals (ex. medical appointments, community resources, working on treatment plan goals, etc.).
- Refers individuals to appropriate community services and assists individuals in applying for and appropriately using community services.
- Assists with the individual and team in the individual planning process.
- Promote self-sufficiency and supports individuals in exercising their human rights.
- Ask questions and elicit required information.
- Ability to manage a flexible and changing schedule.
- Ability to apply common sense and effective problem-solving skills as appropriate.
- Ability to handle emergency situations by communicating the appropriate information to designated people and maintaining a calm and professional manner.
- Demonstrates cooperative and effective professional behavior with colleagues and supervisors in the course of work.
- Maintain a safe environment for the individual by following safety rules, policies, procedures and instructions.
- Adheres to all policy and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and other departmental procedure manuals.
- Assures completion and processing of documentation required in the required timeframe for each individual supported (ex. service notes, timecard, etc.).
- Obtain 50% billable time for hours worked.
- Actively participates in all required training, in-services and staff meetings.
- Facilitate team meetings.
- Works closely with Behavioral Health Services team and community supports (ex. guardians, family, care coordinators and schools) to assess progress, concerns and needs for the individual supported.
- Understands and follows procedures for being a mandated reporter.
- Ability to gather all information necessary to make appropriate decisions independently.
- Ability to assist individuals either one on one or in small groups toward making progress on their goals.
- Have use of personal vehicle with proper insurance during work hours.
- Actively listens and communicates with the individual and team to encourage positive behaviors, promote social interaction, and improve their quality of life.
- Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral or schedule form.
- Exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma and/or GED. One (1) year experience working with or having direct life experience with individuals who experience mental illness.
- Preferred, associate degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field and/or three (3) years' experience working with or having direct life experience with people who experience mental illness.
- Basic computer use and experience with Microsoft Office.
Required Licenses, Clearances & Training
- Background checks as defined by licensing agencies
- Current TB test/clearance
- Valid driver's license and proof of insurance
- Clean driving record
- Pass mandatory agency trainings (i.e., CPR, Mandt, Programs)
- Completed all departmental trainings
Equipment Used
- Personal Vehicle
- Routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and other office-related devices.
Working Conditions
- Required to drive in the community with individuals served
- Required to perform duties in the community
Physical Demands
- Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
- Standing and moving for extended periods of time
- Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work
- Communication skills using the English spoken word
- Ability to see within normal parameters
- Ability to hear within normal range
