Our client is looking to hire an Investment/Derivatives Analyst to join their team in their Jersey City, NJ office.

The Derivatives & Investment Accounting Senior Analyst is responsible for accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and valuation analysis related to derivative instruments across multiple entities, as well as investment accounting for designated investment portfolios and funds. This role supports month-end, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensures the accuracy of financial records and disclosures, and collaborates with internal teams and external service providers to maintain strong financial controls and reporting practices.

Key Responsibilities

Investment Accounting & Reporting

• Review month-end accounting packages prepared by external investment accounting service providers.
• Prepare investment income analyses and support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
• Maintain accounting records for internal investment trading activity.
• Review and validate the accuracy of external service providers’ accounting and reporting deliverables.
• Collaborate with operations teams to investigate and resolve reconciliation breaks and other operational issues.
• Reconcile suspense accounts and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items.

Derivatives Accounting & Reporting

• Perform derivative accounting activities across multiple legal entities, including monthly and quarterly close processes.
• Prepare derivative balance roll-forwards, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting workpapers.
• Prepare and maintain derivative financial statement disclosures and regulatory reporting, including Schedule DB.
• Develop internal derivative reporting and present financial analyses to senior management.
• Prepare quarterly financial statements and reporting packages for derivative counterparties.
• Perform quarterly analyses of derivative valuation adjustments, including credit-related valuation adjustments.
• Partner with Treasury Operations to monitor and reconcile collateral movements and related accounting activity.

Controls, Audit & Process Improvement

• Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external auditors regarding investment accounting documentation, inquiries, and testing.
• Execute assigned internal controls and comply with departmental accounting policies and procedures.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting accuracy, and operational efficiency.
• Support special projects and system or reporting enhancements as needed.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve accounting issues and strengthen financial reporting processes.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related business discipline with a concentration in accounting.
• Five or more years of relevant experience in public accounting, financial services, or a similar accounting environment.
• Strong understanding of investment accounting, derivative instruments, financial reporting, and account reconciliations.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong analytical skills.
• Experience preparing financial reporting packages, supporting documentation, and accounting analyses.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across finance, operations, and external service providers.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Experience with statutory reporting requirements and regulatory disclosures.
• Familiarity with Sovos statutory reporting software.
• Familiarity with Clearwater Analytics or similar investment accounting and reporting platforms.
• Experience working with derivative valuation adjustments, collateral accounting, and financial services reporting.
