Position Summary Resident Assistants (RAs) are student leaders within the Housing & Community Standards team at Henderson State University who play a critical role in fostering inclusive, supportive, and engaging residential communities. RAs promote individual growth through group living, serve as positive role models, and support the academic and personal success of residential students. As representatives of the University, RAs are expected to exemplify institutional values, uphold community standards, and contribute to a safe and welcoming campus environment. Duties & Responsibilities Serve as a visible and active presence within the assigned residential community; learn residents’ names, room numbers, and engage in intentional interactions. Interpret, explain, enforce, and abide by all University and Housing & Community Standards policies and procedures. Facilitate community standards conversations and serve as a mandatory reporter for incidents or concerns. Complete weekly and monthly responsibilities, including: On-call duty rotations Desk duty (four hours per week) Staff meetings and in-services Administrative tasks and documentation Incident response and reporting Programming and educational initiatives Monthly bulletin boards and tagalong events Plan and implement purposeful programming aligned with learning outcomes and community needs. Conduct health, safety, and ESA inspections as assigned. Support and attend campus-wide and Housing-sponsored events. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive materials and information in accordance with FERPA and departmental expectations. Participate in residence hall surveys, assessments, and research projects as requested. Attend and successfully complete all required training sessions and openings/closings. Uphold all responsibilities outlined in the official RA job description and job agreement. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to serve as a positive role model and leader within a diverse residential community. Understanding of or willingness to learn community standards, student development principles, and crisis response. Ability to maintain professionalism, integrity, and accountability at all times. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities. Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and sensitive situations. Commitment to confidentiality, ethical behavior, and compliance with University policies. Ability to work collaboratively with professional staff and fellow student staff. General Days/Hours Position spans Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters (excluding summer). Required return date: Wednesday, August 4, 2026 at 8:00 a.m. Mandatory training and commitments include (dates subject to change): Hall Director Training: July 30–August 3 Fall RA Training: August 4–14 Apartment Move-In: August 13 Residence Hall Move-In: August 15 Welcome Week: August 16–23 Winter Break Closing (meals not provided) Spring RA Training and Opening: January 6–10, 2027 May 2027 Closing (meals not provided) Weekly staff meetings and monthly or twice-per-semester in-services RAs are required to complete four hours of desk duty per week, included in the stipend. Additional hours may be required during high-volume periods such as openings, closings, and training. Time off must be approved in advance; absences are restricted during critical operational periods. Other Compensation & Benefits Option 1: $3,000 annual stipend + single room (valued up to $3,400 per semester) Option 2 (for RAs with another campus job): Single room (valued up to $3,400 per year) + meal plan valued p to $2,000 per year $300 training stipend paid by the end of September 2026 Meals provided during scheduled training Housing placement determined by professional staff; single room guaranteed (suite arrangements vary by location) Minimum Qualifications Must be currently enrolled as a student at HSU. Must maintain: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.3 Good financial, academic, and conduct standing with the University Must disclose and receive approval before working more than 20 hours per week in additional employment. #J-18808-Ljbffr
