Job DescriptionWhat is the Opportunity?Global Manager Research (GMR) is a team of analysts dedicated to providing investment manager research and due diligence in support of RBC’s global businesses and distribution platforms. The broader team consists of investment professionals located in Minneapolis, Toronto, Asia and London and supports an asset base in excess of $650 billion USD. The team conducts initial and on-going research, analysis and due diligence of investment management firms offering mutual funds, separately managed accounts, exchange-traded funds, and sub-advisory relationships.The primary responsibility of the Senior Quantitative Research Analyst is to oversee all aspects of the quantitative tools and methods used to monitor, score, and source investment managers. This includes maintaining and improving existing tools, as well as creating and designing innovative tools that improve the efficiency, consistency and effectiveness of the research and due diligence process.What will you do?Responsible for solution design, testing, and implementation of investment manager monitoring and sourcing toolsLead key aspects of a quantitatively driven research projects from scoping, analyzing, developing, and executionCreate and document procedure to ensure consistency and repeatabilityDeliver meaningful and timely insight, published reports, and recommendations for action to analysts and appropriate investment committeesSupport and troubleshoot existing processes and implement change requirements as needed to maintain high level standards of deliverablesSeek to continually enhance skills and build knowledge in all aspects of the technical systems and toolsMentor and develop team members to strengthen quantitative research capabilities and provide leadership through actions, knowledge, and experienceFoster cross-border collaboration across all four GMR teams and key stakeholdersCultivate and manage strategic relationships with key internal and external partnersWhat do you need to succeed?Must-have: Undergraduate degree with preferred concentration in computer science, statistics, math or financeMinimum of 5 years of work experience, including at least 2 years of experience in the development and implementation of quantitative systemsStrong foundation of investment industry fundamentals: asset classes, investment types, manager strategies and performance/risk metricsGeneral understanding of current financial markets and economic conditionsStrong attention to detail with rigorous analytical diligenceCapacity to problem solve and resolve issues that arise in the day-to-day creation and maintenance of processes and toolsProven ability to lead independently with minimal supervision and demonstrate high-level performanceAbility to collaborate effectively within a team environmentAdaptable to changing market conditions and evolving business prioritiesTechnical Qualifications:Proficient technical skills with strong capabilities including Advanced Excel, Python, JavaScript (D3.js, Leaflet.js), HTML5/CSS, API Interactions, Social Media Mining, SQL, Tableau, Advanced Statistics, Machine Learning, R, Git/GitHub, ETL/ELTExperience with database design, normalization, and data modeling (e.g., entity-relationship diagrams)Proven track record in the implementation and integration of complex technologies and cross-functional projectsKnowledge of AI tools and proactive in exploring and implementing AI-driven solutions to enhance productivity and workflowDemonstrated curiosity about technological innovation combinedNice to Have:Proficient in higher level programming or a strong desire to read, understand and comprehend codingSolid understanding of investment analytical tools including Morningstar Direct, Factset, eVestment and BloombergWillingness to pursue CFA/CAIA designation and other educational opportunitiesWhat’s in it for you?We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper.
