RN Labor and Delivery

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in Labor & Delivery is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to childbearing women, neonates, and their families. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing and implementing care plans, stabilizing neonates, and educating patients and families on self-care and newborn care. The nurse collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support optimal health outcomes and family functioning in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong communication skills and professional conduct are essential, along with current licensure and certifications specific to maternal and neonatal care. Responsibilities:

• Assess developmental level, health status, and history of women and families, including sexual and reproductive history.
• Perform initial assessment and stabilization of neonates.
• Develop and implement individualized care plans based on physical and learning needs.
• Educate patients and families on self-care and newborn care techniques.
• Promote family understanding of health influences and support family bonding.
• Identify and intervene with vulnerable patients and families-at-risk, collaborating with other healthcare disciplines.
• Maintain a safe environment promoting wellness and recovery from illness.
• Support patients and families in coping with women's health issues and childbirth.
• Maintain professional knowledge and clinical competencies through ongoing education.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in Pennsylvania.
• Completion of an accredited registered nurse program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, renewed every two years.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification, renewed every two years.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, renewed every two years.
• Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
• Ability to function effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with the EPIC electronic health record system.
• Experience in Labor & Delivery nursing or related maternal-child health care.

Special Considerations:

• Minimal supervision received from the Director, Women & Children's Services.
• Must demonstrate high mental and emotional tolerance and professional demeanor when dealing with patients, families, and co-workers.

Scheduling:

• Day shift work in a Labor & Delivery unit; specific shift assignments determined by unit leadership.
