Nurse Program Manager Radiation Oncology Research

Job Summary The Nurse Program Manager for Radiation Oncology Research oversees the design, implementation, and evaluation of radiation oncology research programs across the Brigham and Women’s radiation oncology network. The role serves as a key facilitator among radiation oncologists, study teams, and research staff, ensuring alignment with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and clinical trial protocols. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Oversee and manage the Radiation Oncology Network Research program, collaborating with MDs, RNs, and clinical staff to identify and support research needs. Provide input on resource acquisition and feasibility of new clinical trials. Offer nursing and clinical expertise to investigators and develop progress reports. Support patient enrollment on protocols, providing patient identification, protocol education, and coordination with the medical team. Educate investigators, nurses, and clinical staff on protocols, procedures, and regulations (e.g., CITI training). Monitor adherence to OHRS policies, SOPs, GCP, and national cooperative group standards. Collaborate with national research groups (RTOG, CALGB) and other protocol sponsors. Recruit, hire, orient, and supervise network research staff, including data managers and RNs. Develop systems to ensure communication among research entities. Lead Network Research Committee and staff meetings. Serve as liaison to BWH Radiation Oncology, DFCI NLAPS Office, and DFPCC/DFHCC Network Research Office and Institutional Review Board. Attend symposia, scientific meetings, training sessions, and workshops. Maintain knowledge of current scientific advances in radiation oncology research. Develop project status reports and communicate with teams and funding partners. Essential Functions Lead development and implementation of clinical programs aligned with organizational goals. Provide leadership and supervision to nursing staff. Ensure adherence to clinical protocols, standards, and regulatory requirements. Supervise and mentor nursing staff of all grades. Collaborate with interprofessional teams to provide comprehensive care. Develop patient and family education programs. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital policies. Qualifications Current Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse. MSN, MS (major in Nursing), DNP, PhD (major in Nursing), or BSN with a related master’s degree required. 2–5 years of experience in oncology, clinical research, or radiation oncology. At least one year of leadership experience. Radiation oncology experience highly preferred. OCN certification preferred. Skills And Abilities Expert knowledge in oncology, cancer biology, and clinical research methodology. Understanding of local and federal regulatory requirements. Ability to work cross-functionally and collaboratively. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, decision‑making, and problem‑solving skills. Computer literacy—including research‑related software. Grantsmanship skills and excellent verbal and written communication. Working Conditions Travel to Boston, Milford, Mansfield, and Weymouth on a variable schedule. Work in patient care settings with potential exposure to communicable disease and hazardous materials. Supervisory Responsibility Potential for supervisory responsibility over network research staff.
