Production Manager Trainee 1

$18.5 per hour

Your Opportunity The Production Manager Trainee is responsible for learning, demonstrating knowledge and skills, and becoming certified in all aspects of company systems and the pork industry standards. This position operates under the supervision of the appropriate department leader while performing all duties and responsibilities throughout the learning and development process. Hourly compensation is $18.50 per hour. Core Responsibilities Learn, demonstrate capability and knowledge, and become certified in all farm department areas, including the Breeding/Farrowing and Nursery/Finishing job descriptions. Gain a solid understanding of and ability to implement company systems such as pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, and husbandry. Perform and master all hourly jobs under supervision. Become certified in each job after demonstrating competence and skill. Develop and prepare required reports on experiences encountered and share opportunities for improvement. Comply with all environmental laws and procedures to which the company subscribes. Complete the Leadership Certification program. Understand and comply with company IPS, biosecurity, animal welfare, and EMS policies and procedures. Report all environmental, animal care, and biosecurity issues immediately to the supervisor. Act as the head of the department as needed by management. Be on call for emergency situations such as alarm calls, inclement weather, power outages, personnel shortages, and environmental emergencies. Progress in the Manager Training development program. Report any issue that interferes with completion of the development program to Human Resources. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year accredited college or university in Animal Science or a related agricultural field, or a college student with anticipated graduation by the end of the current semester. Ability to work an average 48‑hour week, which may vary frequently. Availability for weekend, evening, and holiday work as needed. Shower in and out of farm facilities daily. Ability to lead others. Willingness to relocate to complete training and assume the first managerial assignment. Computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft software. Ability to work well with others in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. Respectful, approachable, and team‑oriented, building strong working relationships and a positive work environment. Supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high‑quality pork products. Willingness and ability to perform tasks such as euthanasia, castration, vaccinations, piglet processing, ear tagging, taking blood samples, and other standard animal husbandry procedures. Capability to operate a high‑pressure washing system. Supervisory Responsibilities Upon completion of basic technical certification, provide leadership and guidance to personnel within a department under managerial oversight. Work Environment & Physical Demands Vision requirements include close vision and distance vision with the ability to adjust focus. Occasionally lift or move up to 50 lbs. Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently noisy conditions.
