IT Security Intern

Job purposeWe are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Security Intern to join our cybersecurity team. This internship provides hands-on experience in information security operations, threat monitoring, and security best practices. The ideal candidate is pursuing a degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field and has a genuine passion for protecting digital assets and infrastructure.Essential functions — include but not limited toAssist in monitoring security alerts and events through SIEM (Security Information and Event Management) tools.Support vulnerability scanning and help document findings for remediation.Help maintain and review security policies, procedures, and documentation.Participate in phishing simulation campaigns and security awareness training efforts.Assist with access control reviews and user account audits.Research emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and industry trends and present findings to the team.Support incident response activities under the guidance of senior security staff.Help with compliance tracking related to frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, or HIPAA.Assist in configuring and maintaining security tools including firewalls, endpoint protection, and intrusion detection systems.Possible systems administration and network systems configuration and maintenance.Performs other duties as assigned.Behavioral standardsSupports the mission, vision, and goals of Avem Health Partners and serves as a role model within the organization.Adheres to the Standards of Behavior: Respect/Professional Conduct and Attitude, Integrity, Communication, Professional/Personal Development, Commitment to Partners/Community, and Excellence.Exhibits positive customer service behavior in all work interactions; demonstrates a courteous and respectful attitude to the internal workforce and external customers.Communicates accurately and appropriately; handles difficult situations in a discreet and professional manner.Holds self-accountable for professional practice; takes ownership of self and work performed.Interacts effectively with diverse populations in stressful situations resulting from trauma and illness.Keeps current with nursing trends, dialysis-specific knowledge, and evidence-based best practices; participates in in-service programs as required.Assumes responsibility for seeking educational and professional development opportunities and meeting mandatory education requirements.Demonstrates excellent work attendance; actively participates in meetings and training sessions as requested.Adheres to the Avem Health Partners Code of Conduct, Standards of Behavior, and all applicable policies and health and safety requirements.Education, experience, certification & licensureRequired:Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program or recent undergrad graduate in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related fieldBasic understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VPNs)Familiarity with Windows and/or Linux operating systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to handle sensitive information with discretion and integrityPreferred:Coursework or certifications in security (CompTIA Security+, or similar)Exposure to tools such as Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus, or MetasploitExperience with scripting languages (Python, PowerShell, or Bash)Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, or GCP)What You GainReal-world experience in a professional cybersecurity environmentMentorship from experienced security professionalsExposure to enterprise security tools and technologiesOpportunity to contribute to meaningful security projectsPhysical requirementsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
