Job Description
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Community Access, Bureau of Child Support Services is seeking an Administrative Assistant 1 to join our team! At Child Support Services, we help the families of Iowa successfully navigate and understand the importance of providing both financial and emotional support for their children by building relationships with the parents to ensure they are successful. We're seeking an exceptional individual who is respectful, positive, and passionate about supporting families throughout their child support journey. Work Location and Requirements: We are hiring one candidate to fill the position located in the Des Moines CSS office. This is a full-time opportunity, Monday - Friday with hours from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. A hybrid work schedule may be an option upon successful completion of the training period and with management approval. This position does require a driver's license and the ability to travel on occasion, as needed. This is not a remote position.

Job Duties:
- Obtain information from a wide variety of sources including written materials, telephone conversations, and computer databases and read and interpret the information as it pertains to the Child Support Services Program.
- Read and comprehend complex instructions including federal, state and local laws, policy and procedures applicable to the Child Support Services program and apply it to child support casework.
- Provide customer service and interact with people of various social, cultural, economic, and education backgrounds for the purposes of managing assigned casework and providing quality customer service to internal and external customers.
- Analyze information objectively; use sound judgement and critical thinking to make a reasoned judgment.
- Sort, scan, and index physical mail and retrieve electronic mail from e-mail system.
- Respond to customer inquiries and provide detailed or complex answers verbally and in writing.
- Critical thinking skills and executing complex tasks independently.
- Customer service, including de-escalation of conflictual or adversarial situations.
- Excellent oral and written communication and report composition.
- Teamwork, collaboration, and consultation.
- Managing multiple deadlines.
- Extreme accuracy in mathematical calculations and timelines.
