The main medical center is a level 1A tertiary care facility providing patient-centered healthcare via an array of comprehensive medical, surgical, geriatric specialty services, as well as state-of–the-art diagnostic testing throughout 14 sites of care. With 466 inpatient beds, including a 120-bed Community Living Center, a 40-bed domiciliary, and a 21-bed Residential Treatment Program, the Atlanta VAMC is uniquely positioned to serve the healthcare needs of more than 130,000 enrolled Veterans living in 50 counties across northeast Georgia. The Medical Center, also a teaching hospital, provides hands-on and state-of-the-art technology, education, and research to residents in collaboration with Emory University School of Medicine and Morehouse School of Medicine.OR Responsibilities (duties may include, but are not limited to)Maintain patient/resident confidentiality and a safe patient/resident care environment, including familiarity with requirements such as medication administration, patient/resident/family education, discharge process, restraint usage, hazardous waste disposal, etc., as defined by The Joint Commission and all other VA regulatory bodies (i.e. Long Term Care Institute and Office of Inspector General).Provide patient/resident-centered care by performing the following tasks:Assess the health care needs of the patient/resident and maintain or develop a plan of care to meet OR goalsAssess and act on significant changes in the patient's/resident's health conditionCarry out the plan of care by performing/assigning delegated tasksCollect and document pertinent data into the electronic patient/resident medical recordComplete nursing assessments within required time frames, and in accordance with policy and procedure.Identify and act on predictable needs of the patient/residentMeet the health care needs of patient/resident by assessing and assisting the patient/resident to meet expressed needsMeet the emotional and spiritual needs of patients/residents and/or familiesPrioritize and complete tasks within the RN's assigned shiftUpdate patient/resident care plansNotify assigned physician of any changes in conditionReport incidents of verbal or physical abuse immediately to the Nurse Manager of the unit they are assigned; or designated off-shift nursing leadershipAssists in positioning, responding to comfort/safety of patientProvides for accurate care and handling of specimensObserves and enforces strict standards of asepsisObserves, checks and monitors all equipment used during surgery to confirm they are running smoothlyHandles patient documentationInventories all items both pre- and post-surgeryConsults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plansConducts pre- and post-operative educationServes as the communication liaison to family and members of the operating teamTakes and monitors patients' vital signsEnsures that operating on correct patient and the correct procedure is being performedProvides basic, bedside carePrepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications.Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurseResponds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocolRecords all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate formsPreps operating room for patient/procedureInitiates corrective action whenever information from monitoring equipment shows adverse symptomatology.Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum.Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation.Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.Perioperative RN QUALIFICATIONSAssociate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (preferred) from an accredited program, college, or university.Hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in any State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.Has been practicing actively as an RN for at least the last two years.Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications.Has been actively practicing as a registered nurse in an Operating Room or PACU for three (3) years; or has been actively practicing in an acute and long-term setting for one year.KurzSolutions is committed to improving health outcomes by providing well-managed companies with the top healthcare talent in the market.KurzSolutions is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
