Position Summary Provides support to the Bone and Joint Institute of Tennessee by setting patient appointments, front desk patient registration, patient check‑out, maintaining records, collecting patient payments, and providing customer service. Key Responsibilities Cross‑train to assist with medical records as needed and during any downtime, ensuring patient requests are handled promptly. Provide patients with necessary paperwork and HIPAA information to maintain compliance and inform patients when policy changes occur. Consistently verify insurance eligibility prior to check‑in and check‑out to ensure accurate patient demographics before scheduling follow‑up appointments or imaging studies. Oversee the check‑in/check‑out process and answer patient/co‑worker questions regarding scheduling, co‑pays, and insurance as needed. Collect patient payments and confirm the accuracy of individual collections balances at the end of each business day prior to depositing in the safe. Assist in new‑hire onboarding and training when requested by the manager/director; assist co‑workers during downtime. Relay provider/clinical staff direction to patients as needed or instructed. Maintain adequate front office supplies and notify Materials Management when supplies are running low. Maintain open lines of communication with all staff members; interact with staff/patients in a professional and constructive manner regarding directions, scheduling, messages, workflow changes, and necessary corrections. Maintain work areas and personal appearance in a professional, orderly, clean, and safe manner. Report concerns requiring attention to manager or director, presenting possible solutions. Participate in departmental meetings/huddles and recommend improvement opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned by manager and independently seek out job duties during downtime. Position Requirements Formal Education / Training: High School graduate or equivalent. Workplace Experience: At least one year of medical office experience and ability to communicate well. Equipment and Skills Training: Competent in the use of computers, printers, facsimile machines, copy machines, business phones, document scanners, and other office equipment and supplies. Physical Environment: Office environment. Physical Effort: Must be able to sit, stand, communicate in English both verbally and in written form, squat, reach overhead, and operate a computer/keyboard; must heed instruction as appropriate.
