About the Department The Clinical, Medical and Regulatory (CMR) department at Novo Nordisk is one of the most diverse and collaborative groups within the organization. From healthcare provider interactions and developing and implementing regulatory strategies with the FDA to providing medical education and collecting data to support efficacy and new product development, CMR is involved. The Position Provides field coaching, mentorship and management to the field‑based Medical Liaisons, and develops and implements strategies to optimally manage key opinion leader/organized provider/academic institution/ integrated delivery network relationships. The role includes ensuring timely and up‑to‑date scientific information is available for the team, coordinating with other NNI units, managing budgets, schedules, and performance standards, and leading briefings and technical meetings for internal and external representatives. Relationships Reports to the Executive Director or Vice President of Medical Affairs. Has direct supervisory responsibility for field‑based Medical Liaisons in designated U.S. areas and works closely with home office teams in Medical, Marketing, Sales, Legal, and Human Resources as well as field personnel and external partners such as academic institutions, integrated delivery networks, managed care organizations and HMOs. Essential Functions COORDINATION/COMMUNICATION AND ADMINISTRATION Work with field‑based Regional, MM, and RMS teams to improve and develop new relationships, and maintain existing ones with thought leaders in specialty areas affected by NNI products. Manage direct reports in providing responses to all requests for information. Ensure the most up‑to‑date information on the therapeutic area and NNI clinical plans, product support letters, and marketing and sales tactics is made available to the Medical Liaisons. Participate in Marketing, Sales, national medical meetings and interact with CTM, DEP management and external task forces as needed. Review and audit direct report expense reports, and manage and review time and activities tracked in VEEVA. Review, evaluate and channel information to the appropriate NNI personnel and provide timely responses to support requests from Medical Liaisons.
MANAGEMENT
Actively manage the field medical team by assigning the right people to the right projects based on capacity, skill, interest, and capability, and assist them with pre‑call planning. Communicate NNI policies, procedures, and organizational changes to reporting personnel; answer team questions. Coordinate with other Field Directors to ensure consistency of training and development approaches across different areas while customizing initiatives to fit the unique needs of direct reports. Ensure FMA personnel understand strategic and therapeutic priorities, focus on those priorities, and grasp their accountability for results and the measurement process. Provide onboarding and training for new hires, mentor and build talents particularly in knowledge of technical and scientific information, business practices, communication and motivational skills, and provide a broad legal overview of the pharma industry and NNI globally. Spend adequate field time with direct reports to coach, develop personnel, ensure unit objectives are met, and provide timely, constructive feedback documented in iCoach.STRATEGIC PLANNING
Facilitate feedback from Field Medical Personnel to assist Medical, Marketing, and Sales in developing strategies and tactics that improve planning, expand clinical research quality, increase accuracy of medical and marketing assessments, and enhance competitive positioning of NNI products. Take a leadership role in coordinating and resourcing activities, allocating financial and human resources, supporting appropriate use of NNI products, and greater utilization of its services. Coordinate activities at assigned medical and scientific meetings and symposia, maintaining awareness of current issues and new data related to NNI products, developing relationships with HCPs, supporting appropriate use of products, and assisting representatives in answering physician questions. Work with the Executive Director to define therapeutic area disease and treatment concepts that become the basis for field activities, be adopted by thought leaders and providers, and support the use of Novo Nordisk products, defining and implementing tactics for timely acceptance of these concepts. Proactively identify and pursue new ideas, solutions, and opportunities to keep the team abreast of scientific knowledge and business demands. Take a leading role in collaborating with Marketing, market shaping, commercial effectiveness, and Sales management to develop scientific strategies to optimize NNI products and development activities; routinely attend live meetings and conference calls. Physical Requirements 50‑75% overnight travel required. This is a field‑based position and can be located anywhere in the U.S., with a preference for the West Coast. Development Of People Supervises reporting personnel, ensuring they have Individual Development Plans (IDP) with annual goals, mid‑cycle reviews, and clear measurement processes aligned with business priorities. Provides leadership and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies and procedures. Qualifications A minimum of 3 years of previous management experience and 3 years of pharmaceutical experience, or a minimum of 6 years of progressive pharmaceutical industry experience required, with at least 3 years in a healthcare system preferred. An advanced health care or science degree (e.g., DO, MD, PharmD, PhD, DNP) required. Direct experience in therapeutic area such as hematology, diabetes, or endocrinology is preferred. One or two years of Medical Liaison experience or an equivalent position required. Proven track record of establishing relationships with opinion leaders, organized providers, and managing a team. Self‑development in leadership, personal development, and reading the latest scientific literature and competitor activity. Novo Nordisk is an equal‑opportunity employer.
