Compounder – Personal Care / Cosmetics-2nd Shift

Hours 2pm-10:30pm

Summary

The Compounder is responsible for accurately weighing, measuring, and mixing raw materials to manufacture personal care and cosmetic products (e.g., creams, lotions, shampoos, gels) according to formulas, batch records, and SOPs, ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and follow master batch records and formulas for personal care products.
  • Weigh and measure raw materials (liquids, powders, fragrances, colors) using calibrated scales.
  • Charge raw materials into mixing tanks/kettles in the correct sequence and conditions.
  • Operate mixers, homogenizers, emulsifiers, heating/cooling systems, and transfer pumps.
  • Monitor and record critical parameters (temperature, mixing speed, time, pH, viscosity).
  • Perform in-process checks (appearance, odor, pH, basic viscosity checks as trained).
  • Ensure batches meet specifications before releasing to filling/packaging.
  • Properly label all in-process and finished bulk with product name, batch number, and status.
  • Clean and sanitize tanks, lines, utensils, and work areas per cleaning SOPs.
  • Handle and store raw materials and finished bulk according to safety and quality requirements.
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and company safety rules.
  • Report any deviations, equipment malfunctions, or non-conforming materials to supervision.
  • Assist with inventory counts and notify supervisor of low or damaged stock.
  • Support continuous improvement, housekeeping, and 5S in the compounding area.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1+ year experience in compounding, cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical, food, or chemical manufacturing preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow formulas, batch records, and SOPs in English.
  • Basic math skills and ability to use scales and measuring tools accurately.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to [X] lbs (e.g., 50 lbs or per site requirement).
  • Willingness to work with fragrances, dyes, and various chemical ingredients using appropriate PPE.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Understanding of GMP and hygiene practices for personal care/cosmetic products.
  • Mechanical aptitude for operating and cleaning compounding equipment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize batches, and meet production schedules.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing/production environment for personal care and cosmetic products.
  • Exposure to fragrances, powders, and chemical ingredients.
  • Use of required PPE (gloves, goggles, hairnet, lab coat, mask, etc.).
