Patient Care Tech, Part-time, Variable

Position: Medical Assistant – Emergency Department (Part‑Time, 24 hrs/week) We are seeking a Medical Assistant to assist ED physicians, advance practice clinicians, and registered nurses with basic and technical patient care. The role performs patient care, documentation, clerical support, and equipment maintenance under the direction of an RN or physician. Essential Functions Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges. Document vital signs, place and monitor oxygen saturation, cardiac monitoring, and non‑invasive blood pressure monitoring systems. Position patients safely, assist with transfers/transport, apply orthopedic splints, dressing, and wound care. Obtain 12‑lead ECGs, discontinue peripheral IVs and heparin/saline locks, and maintain laboratory specimen care. Perform lab draws (requires current Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification). Measure and fit crutches and walkers; instruct patients on proper use. Assist with resuscitation/CPR and emergency airway procedures. Decontaminate equipment, instruments, supplies, and assist with room turnover. Recognize and report abnormal signs and symptoms to the primary RN and provider; perform point‑of‑care testing. Provide clerical support, intra‑inter‑departmental communication, and duties as assigned. Maintain professional growth through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Follow safety practices and policies: security, MSDS, infection control, fire, disaster, and safe lifting. Comply with organization policies, procedures, and labor agreements. Maintain professional demeanor and personal appearance consistent with organizational standards. Perform any additional accountabilities required by management. Education & Experience High school diploma or GED. Washington State Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Massachusetts Emergency Medical Technician (MA‑EMT) certification – required. Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification – preferred. Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 30 days of hire. Previous healthcare experience – required. Critical thinking, independent problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills. Demonstrated accountability, adherence to legal and ethical guidelines. Competence in caring for patients across all age groups and knowledge of medical terminology. Proficiency with equipment used in the emergency department. Physical Requirements Stand, sit, walk, lift, reach, kneel, bend, stoop, crouch, push, and pull frequently during 8–12 hour shifts. Lift/carry up to 10 pounds of supplies and equipment; ambulate for 8–12 hours. Perform CPR and lift/push/pull 60–300 pounds (with assistance) up to 20 times per shift. Good reading vision and peripheral vision. Effective verbal and written communication with physicians, nurses, patients, families, and the public.
