Job Description
About the Role
Step into a senior, shop-floor hourly role where you’ll build, wire, and bring complex plate products to life—from first bolt to end-of-line test. As an influencer and hands-on lead, you’ll mentor junior assemblers, coordinate day-to-day work as directed by department leadership, and personify BAC’s values: Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation . Your compass is simple: do the right thing in the right way .
A Day in the LifeYou arrive, review safety priorities, and organize work across NEXUS stations. You lead by example—assembling and wiring from standard work, coaching junior mechanics through prints and schematics, and preparing units for end-of-line testing. When issues arise, you troubleshoot quickly, complete documentation, and update team metrics in Excel. Between builds, you perform basic preventive maintenance, sign off on maintenance checklists, and contribute ideas to improve quality, safety, and throughput. Throughout the day, you reinforce 5S, sustainability practices, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do- Champion safety for yourself and your team; use proper PPE and follow all procedures.
- Work across all NEXUS stations, including Assembly and Wiring, to build to spec from standard work.
- Operate equipment to maximize productivity and product quality; hit or exceed shift production goals.
- Execute end-of-line testing and troubleshooting for plate products, including Hi-Pot (dielectric) testing.
- Complete basic preventive maintenance and sign daily/weekly maintenance procedure checklists.
- Drive adherence to quality and process standards; document processes for knowledge capture.
- Lead and mentor a small group of junior assemblers; train for technical and professional growth.
- Interpret electrical/electronic schematics, diagrams, and mechanical prints; install motors/controls and verify proper setup.
- Understand, post, and communicate departmental metrics; perform accurate paperwork and online data entry.
- Practice and sustain 5S; support continuous improvement and root-cause problem solving.
- Contribute to department safety initiatives and pursue sustainability: reduce waste, maximize recycling, and minimize energy/water use.
- Flex to multiple workstations and changing priorities; support cross-functional teams and regional project needs.
- Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
You’ll report to the department Team Leader, provide hands-on leadership to junior assemblers, and step into leadership responsibilities as needed. As a subject-matter expert, you may be tapped for regional project teams to share best practices and elevate standards.
Skills That Set You Up for Success- Proven small-team leadership and on-the-job training/mentorship.
- Clear written communication: document processes, write concise memos/emails.
- Professional verbal communication with customers and coworkers; share accurate technical information.
- Fluency reading mechanical/electrical blueprints, diagrams, and schematics; strong troubleshooting fundamentals.
- Competence in wiring high-voltage (3-phase/480V) and low-voltage controls from schematics.
- Ability to perform Hi-Pot (dielectric) testing and verify control installations.
- Solid math: add, subtract, multiply, divide; fractions and fraction-to-decimal conversions.
- Comfort using tape measures, micrometers, and protractors; fine hand-manipulation and hand–eye coordination.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and root-cause techniques.
- Thorough awareness of machine hazards and safety-sensitive areas.
- High product knowledge across BAC models and parts.
- PC skills: locate instructions/forms on LAN or databases; strong Excel skills for updating data and generating metrics.
- Adaptability across multiple stations; effective contributor on cross-functional teams.
