CNC Setup Machinist – 2nd or 3rd Shift

Location: Menomonee Falls, WI
Employment Type: Direct Hire
Pay: Competitive base pay reaching the high $30s per hour, based on experience
Shift Premium: Additional $3.00 per hour for 2nd shift or $4.00 per hour for 3rd shift

We are recruiting experienced CNC Setup Machinists for direct-hire opportunities with Milwaukee Bearing & Machining in Menomonee Falls.

This is not a production operator position. We are looking for experienced machinists who can independently set up equipment, make program changes or program at the machine, select tooling, calculate feeds and speeds, and troubleshoot machining issues.

Available Shifts

2nd Shift:

2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

There may be some flexibility with the hours, including the possibility of working four 10-hour shifts.

2nd-shift employees receive an additional $3.00 per hour shift premium.

3rd Shift:

10:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

3rd-shift employees receive an additional $4.00 per hour shift premium.

Selected machinists will initially train on 1st shift before moving to their permanent 2nd- or 3rd-shift schedule.

What You Will Be Doing

• Set up and operate CNC and numerically controlled machining equipment

• Develop, enter, check, and adjust programs at the machine

• Run both new and repeat jobs while maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and quality

• Read and interpret detailed blueprints, specifications, routings, and machining instructions

• Understand G-code and M-code and make necessary program adjustments

• Select and install proper tooling, workholding, and fixtures

• Arrange, mount, and secure workpieces when established fixturing is not available

• Set stops and calibrate fixtures to the proper reference points

• Manually cycle machines to verify tooling, clearances, work positions, speeds, and feeds

• Calculate your own feeds and speeds

• Diagnose machining or operating problems and make the necessary corrections

• Inspect completed parts using precision measuring instruments

• Hold close tolerances and meet required surface-finish specifications

• Operate multiple machines when required

• Recommend tooling and machining sequences for new or unusual jobs

• Assist with training less-experienced machine operators and machinists

What We Are Looking For

• Five to seven years of machining experience preferred

• CNC setup and programming experience at the machine is required

• Experience with G-code and M-code

• Strong blueprint-reading skills

• Ability to understand geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, or GD&T

• Ability to calculate feeds and speeds independently

• Experience using precision measuring equipment

• Ability to perform metric conversions

• Strong shop math skills, including geometry, algebra, and trigonometry

• Accredited machining apprenticeship, technical training, or equivalent hands-on experience

• Experience with conversational controls is a plus

• Good communication skills and willingness to cross-train other employees

Applicants whose experience is limited to loading parts, pressing cycle start, and checking completed pieces will not be a fit for this position. Candidates must have hands-on setup experience and the ability to make program changes or program at the machine.

Qualified candidates will be asked to complete a machining skills worksheet as part of the screening process. This helps determine your experience with specific machines, controls, setup, programming, tooling, and inspection.
