Field Service and Applications Engineer

We're looking for a problem-solver who can diagnose a battery system over the phone with an installer 200 miles away, drive to the site when the phone call isn't enough, and tear down the returned unit on the bench to find out what actually went wrong. When those systems need support, our service and applications engineering team is who makes it right.

About the Role  

Based in Puerto Rico, you'll own technical support and field service for installers and homeowners across the island and broader territory. The work is one job at three depths: remote diagnosis with the installer on the phone, on-site visits when remote won't do it, and bench teardown of returned hardware to find the root cause. Most problems get solved through someone else's hands, so the skill isn't just knowing the product. It's getting an installer standing in front of a live system to give you the right information and take the right step. Travel is primarily local and regional day trips, not weeks on the road.

What You'll Own  

• Your ticket queue, end to end. Inbound technical calls, tickets, chat, and email from installers, distributors, and homeowners, including the Spanish-language queue.
• Live remote troubleshooting: reading the fault, directing the measurement, interpreting the result, and giving the next step in plain language.
• Commissioning and start-up support, including configuration, communication setup, and firmware verification.
• Design and sizing input on new and existing systems: inverter selection, battery bank sizing, compatibility, and PV integration.
• Fault diagnosis across electrical, firmware, and communication layers, including CAN/RS485 links, monitoring gateways, and third-party inverter ecosystems (Sol-Ark, Victron, Enphase, Schneider, Outback).
• Field visits when remote resolution is exhausted, with the expectation of closing the ticket the same day with findings and photo evidence.
• Hands-on hardware work: teardown, bench testing, component-level repair, and validation before units go back to stock.
• Warranty and RMA disposition with documented deflection steps completed before any replacement is approved.
• Knowledge base articles, installation guides, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting documentation.

What We're Looking For  

• Bilingual. Professional fluency in both Spanish and English for daily technical support across both queues is required.
• Self-starter with urgency. You manage a heavy ticket volume on your own, set your own priorities, and close problems without waiting for direction.
• Hands-on technical depth. Experience with solar PV, battery storage, or inverter installation, service, or manufacturing, with enough electrical fundamentals to reason from a measurement rather than a symptom list.
• Disciplined documenter. If it's not in the ticket, it didn't happen.
• Adaptable. Products, procedures, and tools change fast. You lean into that rather than waiting for someone to tell you what to do next.

Bonus points  

• NABCEP certification, an electrical license, or equivalent trade credential.
• Experience with third-party inverter ecosystems and CAN/RS485 networked energy systems.
• Component-level repair or lab experience on power electronics and battery management systems.

• You must be based in Puerto Rico.
• The ticket volume is heavy, and you will work largely on your own. Nobody is assigning your priorities or checking in throughout the day.
• There is no long onboarding ramp. We need someone who can step in, learn fast, and start closing tickets.

The Details  

Location: Puerto Rico (on-site/field, residence required) 

Travel: Primarily local and regional day trips across the island and surrounding territory 

Schedule: Queue coverage inside published support hours, with a share of weekend and storm-event rotation
