Quality Inspector

The Quality Inspector ensures that fabricated and machined components meet strict quality standards by performing first article, in-process, and final inspections. This role uses precision measuring tools, interprets engineering drawings and GD&T, and maintains accurate quality records to support reliable production in a precision manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform First Article Inspections (FAI) in accordance with AS9102, including completing, documenting, and maintaining detailed FAI reports.
• Conduct thorough in-process and final inspections on fabricated and machined components to verify compliance with specifications and customer requirements.
• Verify dimensions and features using precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gages, bore gages, pin gages, thread gages, and other standard inspection instruments.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T callouts to determine inspection requirements and acceptance criteria.
• Accurately record inspection results, maintain quality records, and ensure full traceability of inspected parts and processes.
• Identify nonconforming material, tag and segregate it appropriately, and assist in writing and documenting nonconformance reports (NCRs).
• Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and shop leads to resolve quality issues, provide feedback, and help prevent recurring defects.
• Support calibration tracking activities and verify that inspection equipment is properly maintained and in good working order.
• Assist with internal, customer, and AS9100 audits by providing documentation, inspection records, and process information as needed.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts in quality inspection processes and procedures.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in aerospace, defense, or other precision industries.
• Hands-on experience performing First Article Inspections (FAIs) and final inspections on fabricated or machined components.
• Proficiency with precision measuring tools including calipers, height gages, micrometers, and other standard gages.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Strong attention to detail with consistent, clear, and accurate documentation habits.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office and ERP or quality management systems.
• Experience with quality inspection and quality assurance practices in a manufacturing setting.
• Ability to use and understand various gages and inspection tools, potentially including CMM and Faro arm equipment.
• Knowledge of AS9100 and AS9102 standards and their application in inspection activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in aerospace, defense, or other precision manufacturing industries.
• Exposure to Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and Faro arm or similar advanced inspection technologies.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 and AS9102 quality management and inspection standards.
• Familiarity with quality assurance methodologies and continuous improvement practices.
• Comfort collaborating across production, engineering, and quality teams in a small, growing company environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a small, family-owned manufacturing facility within a growing company. Portions of the building are non–climate controlled, so conditions may vary with the seasons. This is a Contract position based out of Ladson, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
