Dual Language Immersion Teacher - 3rd Grade

General Summary The Dual Language Immersion (DLI) teacher reports directly to the building principal. He/she is responsible for the academic, social and emotional growth of students. The DLI teacher collaborates with school personnel, parents, and community members to promote the core purposes and goals of the Dual Language Immersion Program. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in education ENL/ESL Endorsement (Preferred) Indiana educator’s license (Current) Instructional experience in second language acquisition or bilingual education Advanced written and oral proficiency in English and Spanish (Required) SIOP and WIDA Trained Proficiency in Spanish - Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening Ability to teach content in Spanish Specific Responsibilities in This Position Creating and implementing the Dual Language Curriculum Provide individualized as well as whole group language instruction Develop academic language for student success in content areas Evaluate and keep grades, absentees for each student in a formal record/computer grade book Responsible for creating and implementing lesson plans that meet Indiana/WIDA/ISTE standards Responsible for maintenance of attractive, neat classroom that presents an atmosphere that is conducive to language learning Teaches core content areas in the target language (language arts, math, social studies, science) using the Indiana Academic Standards Able to integrate both English and the target language in the teaching of grade level content Possesses demonstrated oral and written fluency in both English and the target language Collaborates with staff, administrators, and parents in the development and implementation of cultural programs/opportunities for students Able to work with students and parents who are culturally, racially and linguistically diverse Other duties as assigned by building/district administration Required Professional/Personal Attributes Dependability Confidentiality Professionalism Flexibility Ability to work independently and collaboratively Ability to organize and prioritize Desire to increase professional knowledge of Dual Language Immersion Programs Growth Mindset Empathy towards students and families It is the policy of the School City of Hammond not to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, or disability in its programs or employment policies as required by the Indiana Civil Rights Act (I.C. 22-9.1), Title VI and VII (Civil Rights Act of 1964), the Equal Pay Act of 1973, Title IX (Educational Amendments), and Section 504 (Rehabilitation Act of 1973). #J-18808-Ljbffr ReNEW Schools
