Senior Supervisor Operations

National Grid is hiring a Senior Supervisor, Operations Services for our Capitol Delivery department to work out of our Scotia, NY office. We deliver safe and secure energy to the public. Job Purpose The Senior Supervisor Operations is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of line crews engaged in maintenance, construction projects, emergency response, and right‑of‑way maintenance. This role primarily oversees Local Union 97 Transmission Line Mechanics and Equipment Operators while also overseeing contracted personnel across multiple disciplines. Reporting to the Manager of Transmission Line Services‑Internal in the Eastern Division, the Supervisor ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with National Grid and regulatory standards. Key Accountabilities Directly supervise Local Union 97 Line workers and equipment operators, providing guidance and performance feedback in a safe and positive work environment. Oversee daily maintenance, construction, and right‑of‑way activities, ensuring timely and budget‑compliant completion. Assist in planning and coordinating tasks, allocating resources effectively for maintenance and construction projects. Lead emergency response efforts (115 kV and above) for Transmission assets, ensuring crews are prepared to address outages and incidents promptly and coordinating with Control Center and stakeholders. Support local Electric Distribution Operations efforts (69 kV and below) with Transmission Line resources to address outages and incidents. Serve as a Distribution Restoration Crew Supervisor during weather‑related emergencies when all Divisional Transmission Storm Response duties are addressed. Implement and enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety meetings and training, and document Effective Safety Discussions and Compliance Assessments. Maintain accurate records of work performed and provide updates on operational performance and project progress. Collaborate with other supervisors and departments for effective communication and coordination with external stakeholders. Require daily travel to job sites and right‑of‑way locations and ability to work in year‑round weather conditions typical of Upstate New York. Be available for emergency response reporting outside of regular working hours (0700‑1330), including weekends and holidays. Qualifications Required: Minimum of 3 years of construction‑related experience, focusing on construction and maintenance. Proven supervisory experience, managing people and schedules, preferably within a unionized environment with understanding of union contracts and provisions. Strong knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards related to transmission line operations. Demonstrated working knowledge of Transmission and Distribution systems, including clearance & control, operating diagram interpretation, construction prints, and electrical hazard awareness. Excellent verbal and written communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions under pressure of customer outages and changing conditions. Preferred: Associate (AS) or Bachelor (BS) degree in a related field or equivalent construction or maintenance experience.
