Rhino Medical is leading the charge seeking ABEM Board Certified Emergency Medicine Physicians for an upcoming locum tenens opportunity in Summerville, South Carolina.

This is a distinctly different Emergency Medicine assignment: physicians will provide single-coverage care in a new freestanding Emergency Department serving the rapidly growing Summerville area of the Charleston Lowcountry .

The anticipated clinical model combines approximately 13 patient encounters per day , 12-hour shifts, and a modern 10-room emergency care environment with onsite diagnostic capabilities. For experienced Emergency Medicine physicians comfortable with independent practice, this offers an opportunity to establish recurring coverage in a lower-volume setting while remaining within the greater Charleston market.

Schedule & Coverage

Physicians will provide 12-hour Emergency Medicine coverage:

• Days: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
• Nights: 7:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Minimum availability of 3 shifts per month
• Single physician coverage
• No APP coverage

Candidates should be comfortable practicing independently within a freestanding Emergency Department model.

Emergency Department Environment

This opportunity supports a new 24/7 freestanding Emergency Department developed to expand access to emergency care within the growing Summerville community.

The clinical environment includes:

• 10 emergency examination rooms
• Dedicated trauma room
• Dedicated triage bay
• CT imaging
• Ultrasound
• X-ray
• Onsite laboratory capabilities

The current anticipated census is approximately 13 patient encounters per day , creating a significantly different practice environment from the high-volume urban Emergency Departments common throughout larger metropolitan markets.

Despite the lower anticipated census, this remains an Emergency Department—not an urgent care setting—and physicians must be prepared to independently evaluate, stabilize, and manage patients presenting with emergency medical conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Independently evaluate and manage Emergency Department patients
• Stabilize acute and potentially emergent presentations
• Perform Emergency Medicine procedures within credentialed scope
• Utilize onsite imaging and laboratory resources to guide diagnosis and treatment
• Determine appropriate discharge, consultation, or transfer disposition
• Coordinate higher levels of care when clinically indicated
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Provide independent physician coverage throughout assigned 12-hour shifts

Candidate Requirements

• MD or DO
• ABEM Board Certified in Emergency Medicine
• Active South Carolina medical license
• Clean credentialing background appropriate for temporary privileges
• No unresolved malpractice issues that would prevent expedited credentialing
• Comfortable with single-physician Emergency Department coverage
• Ability to commit to 3 or more shifts per month
• Availability for day and/or night coverage based on scheduling needs
