Department Manager

Brief Description The Die‑Cut Department Manager provides leadership, coordination, and technical subject‑matter expertise to ensure the department achieves all key objectives. Designs, directs, and manages all printing and die‑cut day‑to‑day production within specific guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage department personnel: hiring, training, staffing levels, overtime, time‑off, performance conversations, disciplinary actions, policy adherence. Ensure employees utilize GMP, Food Safety, Quality, HAACP, and Safety practices in accordance with corporate, plant, and auditing rules. Motivate and engage work teams to accomplish operational objectives, maintaining a solid floor presence. Recognize and develop employee skills, create succession plan and promote growth opportunities. Achieve forecast and budget targets: measure and analyze key production and operating data. Oversee and chair productivity improvement meetings with technical leads and supervisors. Minimize waste by communicating and enforcing waste‑reduction processes to reach targets. Review production run estimates for printing to ensure all necessary equipment and consumables are available and run speeds are met. Manufacture a quality product that meets customer requirements: work with Quality Manager on quality improvement initiatives and corrective actions to customer complaints. Prepare staff to handle customer and HACCP audits, municipal and customer inspections, and plant tours. Conduct and document regular internal audits to maintain compliance and attest quality throughput for customers. Work with Engineering, Maintenance, and suppliers to ensure layout, installation, and start‑up of new equipment is performed efficiently, cost‑effectively, and safely. Participate actively in Leadership Team Meetings and establish trusting relationships with other managers to coordinate and support plant operations. Ensure, where applicable, product safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and legality of all products produced and sold. Adhere to all company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, quality, product safety, legality, security, and regulatory compliance. Additional duties as required. Qualifications Minimum 10 years of manufacturing leadership. Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment, making informed decisions quickly. Proven track record of accomplishments and results in safety, productivity, and product quality. BRC, SFQ, HAACP, Six Sigma experience preferred but not required. Excellent computer skills working with Microsoft products and SAP. Working Conditions Ability to work in a hot or cold environment. Work around solvents, ink, and adhesives used in the manufacturing process. Must wear the necessary PPE for all phases of the job. Safety steel shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, hairnet, beard net, etc. Physical Demands Regularly required to talk or hear; frequently required to walk, climb, stand, ascend/descend stairs, push, pull, bend and reach; occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
