Job Summary Prepare and teach courses in mathematics offered in the department. Full-time faculty members have a responsibility to actively participate in an institution of higher learning to benefit and engage with students and colleagues in realizing the mission of Sinte Gleska University. This participation manifests in scholarship, service, and teaching. Duties & Responsibilities Prepare and teach the required hours/semester for the academic year, with one class in the summer as per contract. Classroom design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and other associated responsibilities, both in-person and in an online virtual classroom setting. Assessment of student performance, including the preparation, administration, grading, and evaluation of tests, papers, and examinations and the reporting of grades. Maintain 15 office hours per semester. Advise students and participate in the registration process as assigned. Conferences with, and academic advisement of, students outside of their registration needs. Keep current and professionally engaged in area of expertise. Engage with SGU functions such as departmental responsibilities, committee assignments, and other assignments in accordance with department and/or university mission. Respect and adhere to other departmental/college/internet service provider’s acceptable use policies. Involvement and assistance in the curriculum design for Arts & Sciences Department. Along with support from peers and university mentors, utilize innovative and culturally responsive pedagogical approaches to enhance student learning experiences. Input into the selection and procurement of textbooks, and other materials for classroom or laboratory use. Other duties as assigned in the performance of his/her responsibilities and as mutually agreed upon to the benefit of Sinte Gleska University. Qualifications & Experience At a minimum, Master's degree in Mathematics preferred. Faculty must possess credentials one degree beyond the courses they teach - or possess appropriate and relevant experience or have 18 credits in the content area. College teaching and curriculum development experience is preferred. Faculty members work in a team-oriented department and engage collegially with colleagues, staff and members of administration. Faculty must possess cultural competencies with reference to working with Lakota and/or Native American people and respective organizations within reservation boundaries or must possess a willingness to learn. Requested Add-Ons Be able to teach both online and in-person, or willing to learn. Excited to nurture and inspire adult students; willing learn and use cutting edge andragogy techniques. Able to meet students where they are at, with whatever math strengths they have, and help them build their knowledge from there…with kindness, consistency, love and high expectations. Ongoing steady work with all other math instructors to develop course material, creative assessment tools and programs in a positive way. Collaborate congenially with all faculty and staff across the disciplines, and with the community. Help mentor new math faculty, adjunct instructors, and math teachers in local schools if needed. Enthusiastic about helping with recruitment, high school outreach, Bridge programs, extracurricular activities, and Boot Camps whenever those are happening. Knowledgeable about and willing to learn and keep up with technology tools for teaching mathematics and statistics. Aware of or willing to learn about the national NCLEX and PRAXIS (and others?) mathematics content items that nurses and teachers need to succeed in for their licensure, and help with preparing students in that way. Interested in research and/or mentoring student researchers and applying for new or working with existing grants. Enthusiastic about possibilities and thinking outside the box.
