School Based Law Enforcement Specialist The Texas School Safety Center (TxSSC) is an official university‑level research center tasked by Chapter 37 of the Texas Education Code and the Governor’s Homeland Security Strategic Plan with key school safety initiatives and mandates. TxSSC serves as the clearinghouse for the dissemination of safety and security information through research, training, and technical assistance for K‑12 schools and junior colleges throughout Texas. TxSSC is seeking candidates with extensive experience in school‑based law enforcement and school safety who are interested in positively impacting the safety and security of Texas schools. Responsibilities Support the implementation of TxSSC’s mission and vision. Develop, deliver, and update training curriculum materials on school‑based law enforcement and safety planning using multiple modes of dissemination (on‑site training/presentations, web, educational videos, manuals, etc.). Research best practices in school‑based law enforcement and safety planning to inform training curriculum. Review and evaluate planning material to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to school emergency management and operational continuity. Assist in developing and disseminating best practices and guidelines related to school‑based law enforcement and safety in schools, and coordinate with regional training conducted by TxSSC. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Master’s Proficiency Certificate Demonstrated experience in the development of training curriculum Demonstrated experience delivering training presentations Demonstrated experience working with Public or Charter K‑12 School‑Based Law Enforcement Demonstrated excellent writing skills Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience working as School‑Based Law Enforcement TCOLE Instructor Certificate Demonstrated experience working as Law Enforcement Additional Information to Applicants Flexibility to work hours outside of 8:00‑5:00, including up to 10% on weekends. Up to 50% overnight travel throughout the State of Texas. Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License. If selected for an interview, candidates will be required to give an 8‑10 minute presentation on a topic related to school‑based law enforcement or school safety and a computer skills activity. The position is based in San Marcos, TX; interview will be conducted in person if selected.
