Java Developer

Job Description

large university is looking for a Java Developer to support and enhance several mission-critical, custom developed Java applications that will remain in place post-go-live. These applications support core business and student-facing systems, including degree audit, account claiming, and large-scale student onboarding workflows. The ideal candidate can quickly understand existing codebases, work semi-independently, and contribute to ongoing development and maintenance efforts. This role is custom application-focused and is not an integrations-heavy position, though some API consumption and light API development may be required once business logic is established.

Also Include:

Maintain and enhance large, custom Java applications supporting enterprise systems such as:

Degree audit and student information systems

Account claiming and onboarding applications (supporting ~15,000 users)

Access provisioning workflows

Read, understand, and modify existing Java code with minimal ramp-up time

Write and optimize basic SQL queries to support application functionality

Support ongoing development of applications that will be retained long-term after go-live

Consume existing APIs and develop limited APIs when business logic is already defined

Collaborate with internal teams and integrators while focusing primarily on application-level development

Participate in knowledge transfer and quickly absorb domain and system knowledge
