Staff C++ Software Engineer

SRC, Inc. is currently seeking a Staff C++ Software Engineer to drive the technical direction of NASIC core platforms. In this role, you will architect scalable, high-performance systems, solve complex low-level engineering challenges, and establish coding standards. As a technical leader, you will mentor engineering teams and align technical execution with operational goals. This position requires a TS/SCI and is onsite at either the government or contractor facility.What You'll Do System Architecture: Lead the architectural design and structural planning of highly scalable, low-latency C++ systemsTechnical Leadership: Establish engineering best practices, coding standards, and rigorous code review processes across the organizationPerformance Engineering: Spearhead critical optimization initiatives to maximize system throughput, memory efficiency, and hardware utilizationRisk Management: Identify technical debt and systematically design strategies to refactor, upgrade, and secure legacy codebasesCross-Team Collaboration: Partner with product managers and cross-functional stakeholders to translate business vision into concrete technical roadmapsMentorship: Actively coach, mentor, and elevate mid-level and junior engineers to foster a high-performing engineering cultureWhat You'll Bring Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline and 8+ years of experience OR Master’s degree and 6+ yearsAn active TS/SCI clearance is required C++ Mastery: 8+ years of professional experience developing complex, production-ready software using Modern C++ (C++20 or C++23)Advanced Architecture: Deep expertise in system design, distributed systems, concurrency models, and low-level resource managementToolchain & DevOps: Advanced mastery of configuration management (CMake), profiling/diagnostic tooling (Perf, Valgrind, VTune), and building robust CI/CD pipelinesTesting Rigor: Proven experience designing comprehensive automated testing strategies, including unit, integration, and stress testingWays to Stand Out – Preferred RequirementsSpecialized Infrastructure: Deep knowledge of system internals (Linux kernel, OS-level scheduling) or network programming (TCP/UDP, sockets)Open Source / Ecosystem: Significant experience leveraging or contributing to complex open-source ecosystems (e.g., Boost, LLVM, Abseil)Cloud & Containerization: Experience containerizing C++ applications using Docker and deploying to cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP)What Sets Us Apart?SRC, Inc., a not-for-profit research and development company, combines information, science, technology and ingenuity to solve “impossible” problems in the areas of defense, environment and intelligence. The anticipated salary range for this position based out of Dayton, OH is estimated at $130,000 to $150,000 annually.
