Pediatric Geneticist

The Pediatric Geneticist is primarily responsible for providing medical care to patients with suspected genetic disorders including congenital anomalies, connective tissue disorders, skeletal dysplasia, neurodevelopmental disorders and metabolic diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The Pediatric Geneticist will work with a multi-disciplinary team of physicians, genetic counselors, nutritionists and support staff to provide high quality care specific to the needs of each patient.

Role responsibilities include thoroughly evaluating, diagnosing, treating, and managing each patient's condition appropriately. The Pediatric Geneticist will identify relevant medical issues accurately and use appropriate procedures and testing. Documentation of assessment findings, treatment recommendations and plan for continuing care in the clinical record is required. Collaboration with physicians, clinicians, other agency providers, clinical support staff, and administrative staff in meeting patient and family needs is essential. Providing health promotion, education and counseling for patient/families related to medication, diagnosis, health issues and coping strategies is also part of the role. Participation in the management of inter-disciplinary team issues that affect clinical care of patients, utilizing quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows, and participation in the identification and implementation of opportunities to enhance patient and family satisfaction are also required.

The Pediatric Geneticist will participate in pediatric clinical research into the genetic basis of inherited disorders and scholarly activities to promote the health and development of children. Clinical teaching in genetics to a variety of learners, including medical students, residents and fellows, is also part of the role. Participation in efforts to ensure compliance with JCAHO standards and other applicable accreditation and regulatory standards, participation in peer review and quality assurance, and performing other duties as assigned are also required. Academic appointments may be available with the University of Connecticut.

Education required: Graduate from an accredited school of medicine required MD or DO Degree required. License and/or certification required: Must possess current unrestricted license to practice in the State of CT and must be maintained thereafter. DEA with Controlled Substance required and must be maintained thereafter. Board certified/board eligible in both Pediatrics and Medical Genetics.
