Operating Room Tech - St. Peter's Hospital

Role Overview St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY is hiring a full‑time Operating Room Tech / Surgical Tech for an evening shift. The candidate will provide assistance as first scrub at the surgical table, create and maintain a sterile field, prepare operating rooms, monitor sterile technique, inspect sterile items, perform accurate counts of instruments, sponges and needles, and assist with positioning and transport of patients. Responsibilities Provide assistance as first scrub at the surgical table for select procedures. Create and maintain a sterile field. Prepare operating rooms. Monitor breaks in technique and function, including scrub/gown technique, clean sterile field and set up sterile field. Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening, maintain sterility while scrubbed, maintain sterility of instruments and supplies. Perform and document accurate instrument, sponge and needle counts following established policies and procedures. Position and transport patients. Minimum Requirements Successfully completed a nationally accredited educational program for surgical technologists and maintains a certified surgical technologist credential administered by a nationally accredited surgical technologist credentialing organization. May be employed or contracted to practice surgical technology during the twelve‑month period immediately following successful completion of a surgical technology program, but may not continue to be employed or contracted beyond that period without obtaining a certified surgical technologist credential. NYS LPN License. Completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, or Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Provides evidence that the person was employed as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring within the four years immediately prior to January 1, 2015. In cases where a facility cannot employ or contract with sufficient qualified surgical technologists, the person can be hired if they meet the requirements within two years of the start of employment or contracting for the performance of surgical technology. Preferred Requirements 1+ year of experience as a surgical tech in an operating room setting. Strong dexterity and stamina to work on long cases as needed. Ability to prioritize quickly a number of different tasks and activities. Experience working and engaging with a team to promote strong teamwork. Strong communication skills in a fast‑paced work environment. Critical thinking skills to assist the RNs and Surgeons. Passion to learn, grow and develop in the nursing field. Exempt positions under FLSA may be paid at the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. Pay may vary within the stated range based on location.
