Medical Assistant II

Medical Assistant IIA Medical Assistant II performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by physician. Competence in the field also requires that a Medical Assistant adhere to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize and respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professional characteristics.Essential duties and responsibilities include identifying self as a Medical Assistant, verbally and by wearing name badge at all times while on duty. Under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician, a Medical Assistant may administer basic health care or medical treatments, apply bandages, dressings, or splints, assess physical conditions of patients to aid in diagnosis or treatment, assist practitioners to perform medical procedures, collect biological specimens from patients, conduct diagnostic tests to determine patient health, control prescription refills or authorizations, dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards, explain technical medical information to patients, administer medications and give non-intravenous injections, interview patients to gather medical information, inventory medical supplies or equipment, operate medical equipment, perform office procedures including all general administrative duties, prepare medical instruments or equipment for use, prepare patient treatment areas for use, prepare medical billing information as instructed, record vital statistics or other health information, schedule patient procedures or appointments, schedule x-rays and labs, and notify patient of results as directed by physician. If results are coming from outside facility document results into patient's chart. Track diagnostic procedures to assure that patient has had all diagnostic studies performed, are reviewed by physician, and patient is notified of results within a timely manner. If results are coming from outside facility document results into patient's chart. Contact patient with authorized instructions and the pharmacies regarding medication refills and document in Practice Partner the same day under the direction of the physician. Schedule surgery, provide patient with written instructions to include dates and times of appointments and surgery, and document in patient's chart. Coordinate schedule changes with front desk. Complete office charge slips with appropriate diagnosis and CPT code and submit to data entry in a timely manner. Document into the electronic medical record all interactions (related to patients in which medical intervention takes place). Understand limitations of role as a Medical Assistant. Other duties as assigned.Corporate culture responsibilities include following established corporate and department-specific policies and procedures, attending all corporate and department-specific required training, upholding MCC's Purpose, Values, and Vision, abiding by MCC's Corporate Culture Responsibilities, and performing other duties as may be assigned cheerfully and willingly.Education/experience requirements include a minimum education requirement of high school diploma or GED, holding and maintaining Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) certification, holding and maintaining Medical Assistant (MA) certification/registration, or any other equivalent or comparable medical/clinical certification, registration or licensure, and displaying customer services skills, strong interpersonal skills, close attention to detail, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
