Surgery - General Physician Assistant

We are seeking full-time Physician Assistant to join the Trauma Team at South Texas Health System (STHS) McAllen. Quick Facts • Employment Type: Full-Time • Schedule / Hours: Nights only • Call: Night shift trauma coverage • Patient Volume: High-volume trauma level 1 center • Location: McAllen, Texas (Rio Grande Valley) • Practice Setting: Level I Trauma Center within South Texas Health System (STHS) • Support / Care Team: Multidisciplinary trauma surgery team with APPs and surgeons • EMR / Technology: Cerner electronic medical record system Responsibilities • Manage pre-operative and post-operative trauma patients in coordination with trauma surgeons • Perform tertiary evaluations of trauma admissions and provide episodic or problem-oriented care under physician direction • Assist with trauma quality performance improvement initiatives • Conduct complex patient care procedures usually performed by trauma surgeons but delegated to PAs • Assess patient complaints and deliver appropriate treatments • Perform minor surgical procedures as delegated by supervising physician • Utilize advanced assessment skills to anticipate and communicate complex patient issues • Order and interpret labs and diagnostic tests in collaboration with trauma surgeons • Monitor treatment plans and update trauma surgeons with critical information • Respond promptly to emergency trauma alerts • Perform additional duties as assigned Compensation & Benefits • Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience • Sign-on / Relocation: Available for qualified candidates • Health, Dental, Vision & Retirement benefits • Wellness & Work-Life Balance support including malpractice coverage Qualifications • Certified Physician Assistant with appropriate trauma experience preferred • Active or eligible Texas medical license or certification • Trauma care experience highly desirable Growth & Development • Opportunities for professional development and leadership roles within the trauma program • Mentorship and ongoing training supported About the Organization & Community South Texas Health System (STHS) is a comprehensive regional healthcare network with six hospitals, multiple freestanding emergency departments, physician practices, and extensive outpatient services.
