About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse (RN) Profession: Nursing Specialty: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 Hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of critical care experience License: Valid Nursing License Required Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Preferred: PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Must-Have: ICU experience Travel experience required Knowledge and experience with titrating drips Description: The ICU unit has 18 beds currently, with plans to expand to 27 beds. Nurse to patient ratios are generally 1 to 2, with occasional cases requiring care for 3 patients. Patients include those with critical and complex conditions, such as sepsis, acute myocardial infarction, and post-vascular procedures. This unit manages invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, including ventilator management and critical drip titration. Experience with CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy), IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump), and Impella is preferred. The age population served ranges from adolescent to geriatric. Charge nurses primarily manage operations without an active patient load, while hospitalists are available 24/7. Respiratory therapy services are readily available, though not stationed within the ICU. There is a telemetry system in place, but RNs are responsible for reading strips without a dedicated monitor tech. Shifts are scheduled from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM or 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, with every other weekend commitment and holiday rotation required. Floating to step-down or medical-surgical units may be necessary when staffing demands arise, with travelers participating in the floating schedule. Nurses are required to wear solid color scrubs in specific colors, with strict dress code guidelines to follow. Training includes a full day of nursing orientation and hands-on orientation shifts with a preceptor.
