Camp Farm Assistant - Riverhead, NY

Job Title Farm Assistant – DPF 4-H Camp (Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Nassau County) Location Riverhead, New York Summary Assist with the upkeep of the camp farm grounds and buildings, support animal care, vegetable production, and general construction tasks, while working under the Farm Supervisor and Camp Director to maintain a safe, clean, and functional farm environment. Responsibilities Assist in the upkeep of farm buildings and grounds (cleaning, mowing, weed whipping, painting, etc.) to maintain a safe and neat facility. Perform planting, weeding, and harvesting of vegetables. Collect eggs and prepare them for sale. Care for and feed animals. Make repairs and/or alterations as needed to farm facilities and/or grounds. Assist in conducting daily inspections to ensure equipment is safe, clean, and in good repair. Dispose of garbage and/or recyclables as needed. Assist in conducting inventory of equipment and supplies as part of end‑of‑season inventory assignments. Perform other duties as assigned by the Farm Supervisor and/or Camp Director. Attend DPF 4‑H Camp orientation/training programs, staff meetings, and required training events as scheduled (5% of time). Collaborate in activities that support Cornell Cooperative Extension programs, including marketing and reporting of expenses. Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment by following applicable regulations, policies, and procedures. Act proactively to prevent accidents, communicate hazards, and support overall health and safety. Required Qualifications At least 18 years of age. Desire, ability, and willingness to work in a camp community/outdoor environment. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Demonstrated knowledge/experience with safely using farm equipment (tractor, mower, weed whip). Experience in vegetable production, animal care, or general construction. Knowledge/experience with CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Ability to accept direction, guidance, and supervision. Good character, sense of humor, patience, and self‑control. Compensation Full‑time exempt position (100% FTE) with a salary range of $2,850 to $3,325, commensurate with experience. Benefits None specified.
