The candidate will work within the Hardware Engineering organization. The engineer will serve on and typically lead engineering teams, interfacing heavily with other mechanical engineers and analysts, as well as engineers from related disciplines, program management, and customers/stakeholders. The engineer is expected to manage schedule and budget for assigned projects, with the ability to identify and communicate any issues that may impact these goals.The engineer will be responsible for solving challenging technical problems with innovative solutions that meet performance, cost, and schedule requirements. The engineer will support all phases of the product life cycle, including requirements analysis, concept design, detailed design, manufacture, and environmental test. The engineer will serve on engineering teams, and interface heavily with related disciplines and customers/stakeholders. Strong communication skills are required for success in all phases of the role.The engineer will also contribute to overall knowledge base and skill level of the organization via coaching, knowledge transfer, and process improvement activities.This position is contingent upon contract award, the ability to obtain/maintain an active US Government Secret or the successful transfer of a US Government Secret prior to start and the ability to obtain/maintain a special access program clearance prior to start. Basic Qualifications for Staff Mechanical Engineer:Bachelor’s Degree with 12 years of experience, master’s degree with 10 years of experience, Ph.D with 8 years of experience in Science, Technology, Mathematics or related technical fields; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.U.S Citizenship is required.Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S Government Secret Clearance prior to starting.Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) prior to start.A current/active clearance is not required to be considered for the position, but a final clearance is required to start12 years of experience in design and development of ruggedized electro-mechanical and/or opto-mechanical hardware12 years of expertise with mechanical CAD design tools such as Siemens NX or similar12 years of demonstrated application of innovative solutions to complex problems12 years of experience leading and reviewing technical work products of peers12 years of experience presenting at design reviews and customer/stakeholder briefingsPreferred Qualifications:Active US Government Secret Clearance or higher.Expertise with thermal and structural analysis tools and methodologiesStrong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsWorking knowledge of military and commercial process specifications that are relevant to the development and testing of electronics hardware for military applicationsProficiency in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing and ASME Y14 standardsDemonstrated success leading others within an integrated product team (IPT), supporting the development of junior engineers and cross functional collaboration for overall project successExperience with project management metrics, including earned value management, to monitor and manage engineering budget and schedule requirementsExperience in design, manufacturing, and integration of electronic assemblies including printed circuit board design, appropriate material selections and use of off the shelf componentsExperience contributing to technical and cost proposal developmentLeadership in process improvement or knowledge transfer (i.e. publication) activitiesNorthrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment which encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
