Paint Process EngineeringIn the Paint Process Engineering role, you will be responsible for design and/or testing of tooling and equipment and/or planning the manufacturing processes in the Paint area of the manufacturing plant. Work is of a technical nature where decisions are made within limits of general practices and procedures, but where supervision is available to assist during unusual situations. The job may include direct supervision of hourly employees and assigning work to a small group of employees.Responsibilities include:Ensuring that paint processes are maintained and running effectively for vehicle production.Problem-solving and resolving issues affecting paint shop metrics and documenting appropriately.Supporting implementation of new processes and equipment.Communicating between shifts and departments to implement best practices, resolve problems, and sustain consistent performance to objectives.Maintaining process documentation.Supervising all assigned indirect process personnel and production personnel.Building and maintaining working relationships with employees, union, management, and suppliers.Proactively identifying and pursuing opportunities to improve operations by reducing costs, reducing energy usage, improving quality, etc.Obeying safety policy/procedures and leading by example.Interfacing with production/maintenance personnel, plant leadership, and others outside the plant to resolve issues, implement improvements, and communicate status and opportunities.Establishing timing and action plans to complete jobs and/or projects.Directing the design, development, and/or improvements of manufacturing processes and equipment for assigned areas.Providing technical support for specific plant operations.Coordinating input from internal and external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions.Actively identifying new areas for learning and taking advantage of learning opportunities.Understanding and executing Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Process Control Plans.Understanding and actively participating within the GM Global Manufacturing System.Being available to work any shift and overtime including extended hours and weekends.Required qualifications include:Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business Administration or equivalent experience.3+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing.Knowledge in Paint Manufacturing operations and/or Paint Manufacturing Engineering/Maintenance.Experience coaching, teaching, and mentoring employees.Experience managing teams.Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals.Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed.Must be comfortable working on all three shifts.Must be comfortable rotating between shifts.Preferred qualifications include:Knowledge of Fanuc Paint Robots (P-500, P-700), PaintPro software, Versabell III.Knowledge of Image Dispense Robots (M-710i, M-20iA) and Nordson-SEE shotmeters.Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to manufacturing.Knowledge of Red X, Six Sigma, or other problem-solving techniques.Completion of the GM Paint Development Program.This position may be eligible for relocation benefits.
