ABOUT THE LUCAS MUSEUM OF NARRATIVE ART
Opening in September 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is dedicated to illustrated storytelling. Founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson, the museum’s collection features works by artists including Norman Rockwell, Kadir Nelson, Jessie Willcox Smith, N. C. Wyeth, Beatrix Potter, Judith F. Baca, Frida Kahlo, and Maxfield Parrish; as well as comic art legends such as Winsor McCay, Jack Kirby, Frank Frazetta, Alison Bechdel, Chris Ware, and R. Crumb; and photographers Gordon Parks, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Dorothea Lange. The Museum also houses the Lucas Archives, containing models, props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas’s filmmaking career. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with a landscape by Mia Lehrer of Studio-MLA, the Museum is in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, on an 11-acre campus that includes new green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, retail store, and community spaces.POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager, Security Operations position is responsible for the day-to-day management of the physical security program at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art (LMNA or Lucas Museum). The manager will work with the Chief Security Officer to assess security risks at the museum and recommend mitigation strategies. The manager will develop protocols that ensure consistent, quick, and effective responses by the security workforce including contract staff. This role is responsible for helping to ensure the safety and security of staff, visitors, collections, and property through leadership, operational oversight, and people management. The manager will develop training that reinforces these protocols and develops the skills necessary for the security workforce to respond to incidents. The manager will work with the Chief Security Officer to ensure that external partnerships with law enforcement and other government and private entities are strong, and that their respective responsibilities are clear. The Manager, Security Operations position will also work with the Chief Security Officer to develop training for both the security workforce and the wider LMNA staff on specific threat awareness, including active shooter response and conflict resolution. Under the direction of the Chief Security Officer, the manager will also collaborate with departmental leaders on the planning and coordination for special events and VIP visits. As a partner with Visitor Services, People & Culture, and Volunteer Management, the Manager role is in support of enterprise‑wide emergency preparedness and response, implementation of security programs, policies, and procedures aligned with institutional goals, and focused efforts on the visitor experience. The position represents the department in both internal and external engagements and acts on behalf of the Chief Security Officer during absences, emergencies, or special events as required. The Manager, Security Operations will report to the Chief Security Officer.RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and support the implementation, maintenance, and ongoing review of a comprehensive Site Security Plan and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to enhance safety, efficiency, and the visitor experience. Work in partnership with the contract security teams at LMNA to implement effective security coverage and staffing, including day-to-day deployment, post assignments, and adherence to established post orders and LMNA security standards Conduct audits of the contract security teams to ensure LMNA expectations are being met, document findings, address routine performance issues, and escalated significant deficiencies to Security leadership Administer established access‑control and badging procedures in coordination with People & Culture and other authorized departments, ensuring access levels and permissions are implemented in accordance with authorized approvals and established protocols Ensure appropriate controls are followed for badge issuance, modification, expiration, collection, reconciliation, and deactivation for employees, contractors, vendors, volunteers, and temporary personnel Coordinate and monitor site‑specific training, post orders, emergency‑response procedures, escalation protocols, and recurring training for Security personnel and contract security providers Partner with the Operations team to aid in the efficient movement of guests in museum spaces Partner with Visitor Services and other museum departments to develop effective visitor engagement strategies for the museum Partner with other museum departments and external organizations in planning events that are hosted within the museum, including coordination of security staffing, access control, screening, credentialing, communications, and emergency‑response requirements Partner with the Chief Security Officer, General Counsel, Operations, People & Culture, and Curator staff regarding security protocols; threat management; and internal investigations Provide direction and guidance to security operations personnel to detect emerging incidents quickly, and determine appropriate responses, including established notification, escalation, and incident‑reporting procedures Coordinate with contract security providers, law enforcement, emergency services, neighboring institutions, and other external partners as directed by Security leadership Maintain current and accurate SOPs, post orders, staffing plans, incident records, training documentation, access‑control records, and other Security operational documentation Identify and assess security policy issues and the impact of new initiatives or program changes In partnership with Lucas Museum’s Legal and People & Culture, ensure compliance with all applicable legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards related to museum security and its staff Manage security operations staffing models and deployment strategies to ensure effective 24/7 security coverage Prepare quantitative and qualitative physical security reports for Security Department management and museum executive leadership, including incidents, staffing, contract security performance, operational concerns, trends, and corrective actions Identify and promptly elevated significant security incidents, policy violations, staffing deficiencies, unresolved vulnerabilities, or other operational risks to the Chief Security Officer and appropriate stakeholders In collaboration with People & Culture, guide managers in employee relations matters including investigations, documentation, addressing issues in a timely fashion and performance reviews Support security‑related budget planning and resource allocation as directedCORE COMPETENCIES

The physical demands described below are representative of thoserequiredto successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 25 pounds, including wheelchairs, stanchions, signage, guest service equipment, and other operational materials. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with guests and colleagues in person, by telephone, and over two‑way radio. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions. Ability to maintain awareness of guest activity and surrounding conditions while monitoring galleries, queues, and public spaces.QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business, Law, Criminal Justice, Management, or a related field; advanced degree preferred Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Board Certification or equivalent education is mandatory Minimum ten years of experience in investigations, large facility protection, vulnerability assessments, emergency response, and event security.
