Substitute Mechanic

Position Title: Substitute Mechanic

Reports To: Director of Transportation/Chief Mechanic

Essential Job Functions:

• Attend all workshops and conferences, as assigned by Director and/or Chief Mechanic.
• Lubricate/service school system vehicles in accordance with established schedule.
• Procure and replace vehicle parts as directed by Chief Mechanic.
• Perform periodic preventative maintenance inspections and corrections in accordance with established schedule.
• Perform major overhaul of engines, transmissions and other component parts.
• Install and service electrical component accessories.
• Repair air and hydraulic brake systems.
• Maintain records of all maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle as directed by Director and Chief Mechanic.
• May be required to operate a bus as determined by the Director if no substitute is available at the time required.
• Follow proper purchasing procedures.
• Maintain inventory of shop tools and equipment as directed by Chief Mechanic.
• Maintain positive work habits.
• Perform duties efficiently and productively.
• Maintain and/or upgrade skills.
• Provide necessary services and support during bus breakdowns and other vehicle related emergency situations as necessary as assigned by Director and/or Chief Mechanic.
• Perform other job-related responsibilities assigned by the Director and/or Chief Mechanic.
