Senior Staff Accountant (Contract) – Local Government
A local government agency in the Bay Area needs an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support their upcoming external audit. This is a hands-on, deadline-driven contract role for someone who can step in immediately and independently manage reconciliations and audit prep.
What you'll do
- Reconcile payroll and deposit liability accounts
- Complete basic AR reconciliations
- Reconcile general ledger activity against a separate transactional system
- Research and resolve reconciliation discrepancies
- Prepare trial balances, and supporting audit documentation
- Pull AP transactions and invoice support for external audit testing
- Build reconciliations and audit schedules in Excel using PivotTables and VLOOKUPs
What you bring
- 4+ years of hands-on government accounting experience
- Solid GASB and fund accounting background (governmental, general, and enterprise funds)
- Strong GL and subledger reconciliation experience
- Experience with year-end close, trial balance prep, and external audit support
- Intermediate Excel skills, including PivotTables and VLOOKUPs
- Bachelor's degree preferred but not required. Relevant experience is the priority here.
Schedule
Three days a week at 8 hours, or four days a week at 6 hours. Start time is 8:30 or 9:30 a.m., as long as it's consistent. Onsite for all scheduled days.
