Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse BWH

Staff Nurse - CWOCN/ CWON Certified

Providing care for patients in Wound Ostomy and Continence at BWH, nationally recognized academic medical center. The Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) or Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence (CWOCN) is a Registered Nurse with advanced education, training and clinical expertise in the care of patients with wounds, ostomies and continence. Serves as a clinical resource and consultant for all members of the healthcare team. Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating the care, and education of all patients with specific disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integumentary systems. Working collaboratively to provide excellent care to patients and families in the safest environment.

Qualifications

Education:

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing with current registration in Massachusetts.
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required.
• Master of Science in Nursing preferred.

Certification:

• Certified Wound, Ostomy (CWON) or Certified Wound, Ostomy and Continence (CWOCN) certification required.

Experience:

• Recent Wound Ostomy Nursing experience required.
• In-Patient Certified Wound Ostomy Experience required.
• Continence Nursing experience preferred.
• Ambulatory Certified Wound Ostomy Experience preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Membership in professional organizations is recommended
• The RN must show evidence of the basic analytic thinking necessary to care for a group of patients.
• Must demonstrate observational skills and the ability to set priorities.
• Must be able to function under stress with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Must demonstrate effective skills in applying hospital standards in area of service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
