Mission Support Specialist

Summary Organizational Location: U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations – New Orleans Field Office, New Orleans, LA. Additional selections may be made for other units within the duty location(s) listed above. Duties This position provides advisory and technical services in a variety of mission‑support functional areas and enhances administrative processes. The salary range is $50,460.00 (GS‑7, Step 1) to $80,243.00 (GS‑9, Step 10) with promotion potential to $97,087 (GS‑11, Step 10). Conduct detailed planning to gather and interpret information and data for complex problems, issues, and unusual circumstances. Identify ways to improve or enhance current services to meet management’s business objectives. Analyze the effects of changes in laws and regulations as they pertain to administrative specialty areas. Clarify problems and propose recommendations to management. Perform assignments that apply fundamental principles, concepts, techniques, and guidelines in an administrative specialty area(s). Requirements Citizenship and residency: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with Selective Service. Primary U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years. Background and ethics: Must pass a background investigation. Must comply with CDC and CBP drug‑testing and ethics rules for all Executive Branch employees. Bargaining Unit: Position is covered by the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU). Qualifications Experience: To qualify for GS‑7, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level is required, performing duties such as: Assist with planning, gathering, and interpreting information and data. To qualify for GS‑9, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level is required, performing duties such as: Determine effective and efficient approaches to meet customer requirements. Identify improvements to services and ensure alignment with management objectives. Assess situations with conflicting and/or incomplete data. Reconcile conflicting incomplete information and extract additional pertinent details. Define issues or problems in terms compatible with laws, policies, or regulations. Education Substitution: For GS‑7, one year of full‑time graduate education or a bachelor’s degree with Superior Academic Achievement may substitute for experience. For GS‑9, two or more years of graduate education, a master’s degree, or an L.L.B./J.D. may substitute for experience. Proof of claim is required. Time in Grade: Current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent.
