Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to join our dynamic MedSurg/Telemetry unit. This position involves providing high-quality care to a diverse patient population with various medical and surgical conditions.

Shift Details

• Shift Type: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

Unit Overview

The MedSurg/Telemetry unit operates with 25 beds and includes a patient mix of neurological patients and those requiring monitoring. Nurses will care for surgical and medical patients, including post-neurosurgery cases, strokes, and other stable neurological deficits.

Patient Care Responsibilities

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
• Nurses are required to titrate certain medications, including Heparin, Lidocaine, and Ketamine.
• Common diagnoses include joint replacements, fractures, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomies, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive.

Team Structure

• Charge Nurse available on each shift.
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs available with a ratio of 1:10-20.
• Tele/Monitor Techs will interpret telemetry strips; RNs should have basic tele awareness.

Scheduling and Requirements

• Typical Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700.
• Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend, with additional shifts as needed.
• Holiday Requirements: 2-3 holidays from Thanksgiving to New Year's.
• Floating: May be required to assist in other medical-surgical areas.
• Unit Orientation: 2 days of unit-specific orientation provided.

Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a relevant nursing role.
• Certifications: Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required.
• Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are not permitted; refusal to comply may result in termination.

Additional Notes

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong attendance, teamwork, and a compassionate approach toward patient care. The ability to manage admissions and discharges efficiently is essential. This unit serves a culturally diverse patient population.

Work Environment

Mechanical lifts are available in every other room. The unit promotes hourly rounding and responsiveness to patient needs.
