Sr. Embedded Software Engineer, Robotics Platform

This role offers the opportunity to build and evolve the embedded software platform powering a growing fleet of autonomous delivery robots. You’ll work hands-on with modern C++ and embedded Linux to develop reliable middleware and application frameworks. The position combines deep systems engineering with real-world robotics challenges involving performance, safety, reliability, and constrained computing resources. You’ll own significant platform components from architecture and implementation through validation, deployment, and fleet operations. Working closely with autonomy, systems, hardware, and software teams, you’ll help translate system-level requirements into robust software solutions. The role also provides opportunities to influence technical architecture, mentor engineers, and improve the scalability and developer experience of the robotics platform.

Accountabilities:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain robotics middleware and application frameworks using modern C++ on embedded Linux, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and production readiness.
• Own significant platform components throughout their full lifecycle, from technical design and implementation to validation, deployment, monitoring, and operation across a fleet of robots.
• Partner with software teams using the robotics platform to identify reliability, performance, and developer-experience challenges, then build reusable solutions that improve the overall platform.
• Collaborate with autonomy and systems engineering teams on risk assessments, failure analysis, fault-handling strategies, system architecture, and the translation of safety and reliability requirements into software behavior and verification approaches.
• Develop instrumentation, benchmarks, logging, tracing, telemetry, and fleet-level metrics to monitor software performance, reliability, resource utilization, and overall system health.
• Diagnose and resolve complex system-level problems involving concurrency, scheduling, synchronization, interprocess communication, networking, and constrained compute environments.
• Evaluate technical tradeoffs and contribute to architectural decisions that improve platform scalability, reliability, performance, and long-term maintainability.
• Lead technical design and code reviews while contributing to engineering standards, development practices, technical documentation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers through design discussions, problem solving, code reviews, and collaborative technical work.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including substantial experience developing production-grade software using modern C++17 or newer.
• Strong experience developing and debugging systems software in embedded Linux environments, with a solid understanding of multithreading, concurrency, synchronization, interprocess communication, and systems-level programming.
• Experience designing software for latency-sensitive, safety-related, real-time, or high-reliability systems, along with practical experience profiling and optimizing embedded software for performance and resource utilization.
• Demonstrated ability to independently own complex software components across technical design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing operation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities, including the capacity to diagnose complex issues that span software, hardware, networking, and system-level boundaries.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across software, systems, hardware, autonomy, and other engineering disciplines.
• Experience with robotics middleware, autonomous vehicles, or other complex robotic systems is highly valued, as is experience deploying production software on NVIDIA Jetson or similar embedded computing platforms.
• Additional experience with Linux internals, scheduling, resource management, device interfaces, fault-tolerant architecture, functional safety, distributed systems, networking, RPC frameworks, serialization technologies, telemetry, observability, or robotic sensors and hardware integration is advantageous.
