Lead Automation Engineer

AstraZeneca

Lead Automation Engineer provides technical leadership for process control and automation systems at a biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility. Primary responsibility includes designing, implementing, and maintaining Emerson DeltaV DCS and Rockwell Automation PLC systems while ensuring compliance with cGMP requirements and mentoring engineering teams.

Responsibilities

Lead automation design and technical scope for capital projects and process improvement initiatives
Design control systems including architectures, functional specifications, control narratives, and alarm philosophies
Configure, program, commission, and troubleshoot DeltaV DCS and Rockwell PLC applications
Execute and oversee control system upgrades, modifications, recipe changes, and obsolescence replacements
Mentor and provide technical direction to automation engineers, contractors, and project teams

Requirements

Expert-level knowledge of Emerson DeltaV DCS design, configuration, and lifecycle management
Advanced proficiency with Rockwell PLC platforms and FactoryTalk applications
Experience with biopharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing automation systems
Demonstrated ability to lead capital projects and control system architecture design
Strong understanding of cGMP requirements and validation in pharmaceutical environments
Experience with process control, HMI design, batch systems, and historian integration
