Visiting Instructor - Hospitality & Tourism Management

Job Description The Howard Feiertag Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) in the R. B. Pamplin College of Business at Virginia Tech invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, academic year, Visiting Instructor to begin August 2026. This is a one-year visiting instructor position, renewable based on funding with no aspects of tenure.
The successful candidate will be expected to deliver high-quality instruction at the undergraduate level, and participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
Responsibilities include:
• Teach four 3-credit hour courses per semester in the areas of intro to hospitality career, hospitality sales, meetings and conventions, and other courses depending on departmental needs.
• Support the strategic growth and visibility of the department's academic programs and initiatives.
• Teach and develop undergraduate and/or graduate courses within the Department curriculum.
• Provide academic leadership and mentorship within the department.
• Contribute to departmental, college, and university service and governance (as needed).
• Support the strategic growth and visibility of the department's academic programs and initiatives.
• In person classroom teaching and office hours outside of classroom teaching are expected. About the Department: The HTM program prepares in-demand graduates for exciting management positions in the global hospitality and tourism industry. Students obtain hands-on experience through internships, field studies, experienced faculty, and frequent interaction with industry experts. In addition to gaining a broad business education, HTM specialized courses are available in event management, hospitality finance, catering and restaurant management, tourism destination management, franchising, revenue management, international business, data analytics and security, and lodging operations. Students develop a variety of skills, including market analysis, real-time decision making, leadership, and communication. Tourism Attraction Entrepreneur Required Qualifications A baccalaureate degree in hospitality and tourism management or related field is required. Demonstrated record or potential for teaching a broad range of topics in the HTM undergraduate curriculum.
Ability to contribute to a collegial classroom and work environment. Preferred Qualifications Extensive experience and networks in the hospitality and tourism industry.
