Radiology Technologist

PURPOSE
The Radiology Technologist performs imaging exams such as X-rays, CT scans, and MRI scans to assist in diagnosing and treating medical conditions. This role involves positioning patients, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring the accuracy and quality of images. The Radiology Technologist typically reports to the Director of Radiology and works closely with radiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Patient Preparation and Positioning
- Explain imaging procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.
- Position radiographic equipment at the correct angle and height over the appropriate area of the patient’s body.
- Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging procedures.
Imaging Procedures
- Operate radiologic and magnetic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
- Follow physicians’ orders precisely and conform to regulations concerning the use of radiation.
- Administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice.
Image Evaluation and Quality Control
- Review and evaluate developed X-rays or computer-generated images to determine if they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
- Perform quality control checks on imaging equipment to ensure it is safe and in working order.
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
Patient Care and Support
- Monitor patients’ conditions and reactions during and after imaging procedures.
- Address any patient concerns or adverse reactions promptly.
- Provide post-procedure instructions and support to patients.
Administrative Duties
- Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock, anticipating future needs, and placing orders.
- Ensure a clean and organized working environment in the imaging suite.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience in radiology or medical imaging.
- Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
- Certification as a Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiologic Technology or a related field.
- Three (3) years of experience as a Radiology Tech or in a similar role.
- Certification in MRI or CT imaging.
SALARY RANGE
$70,000 + depending on qualifications
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT
- Standard office equipment.
- Repetitive use of a keyboard.
- May be exposed to occupational hazards including communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented or combative patients, among others.
