Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Engineer 
Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Job Summary  
The Outside Plant (OSP) Fiber Engineer is responsible for the end-to-end engineering
of high-density fiber optic network inclusive of the design, routing, and
splicing. This role involves a mix of high-level network planning and detailed
engineering to ensure the successful deployment of underground, and in some cases,
aerial fiber assets. The engineer will bridge the gap between initial concept and "ready-
to-build" construction packages, ensuring all designs meet technical standards and
regulatory requirements. The Fiber Splicing Engineer focuses on detailed splicing
matrices and schematics that dictate how thousands of individual fibers connect to
ensure seamless data transmission across the footprint.

Responsibilities 

·       Network Design & Routing: Design end-to-end fiber routes including point-to-
point, ring configurations, and path-diverse solutions to meet strict Service Level
Agreements (SLAs).

·       Detailed Engineering: Calculate span lengths, tension/sag for aerial
deployments, and conduit fill ratios for underground builds when developing
comprehensive fiber route designs

·       Database & Inventory Management: Maintain accurate Plan of Record data
integrity within GE, IQGeo and NetCracker.

·       Documentation: Create detailed splice packages including splice schematics,
bill of materials (BOM), and pole loading analysis. Assign cable names, splice
IDs, and track fiber utilization.

·       Quality Assurance: Establish technical thresholds for fiber performance,
including maximum allowable loss per splice and OTDR trace requirements.

·       Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with Sales Engineering, Project
Management, and Field Operations to validate project specifications and delivery
timelines.

Data & Systems Management 

·       Maintain accurate records for internal project planning tools

·       Monitor and drive key metrics surrounding program delivery timelines, quality and
resource allocation

·       Ensure clean and accurate inventory records across all internal tools. 

Customer & Vendor Coordination 

·       Establish effective communication with internal teams, vendors, and customers. 

·       Manage vendor relationships and ensure accountability. 

·       Provide weekly updates on customer calls surrounding project completeness,
weekly achievements, risk and forecast as appropriate

Operational Support 

·       Provide real-time support for field maintenance and repair. 

·       Organize work efficiently using time management techniques. 

·       Perform additional duties as assigned to support company objectives. 

Qualifications 

·       Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or equivalent
industry experience.

·       3–5 years of telecommunications fiber network experience, preferably within a
metro-market design department.

·       Software Proficiency: Hands-on experience with GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS,
QGIS, or Vetro), AutoCAD, and Google Earth Pro.

·       Field Skills: Ability to perform field walks and use GPS data collection tools to
verify site conditions.

·       Strong interpersonal skills for supporting and communicating with cross-
functional teams. 

·       Knowledge and experience in fiber construction practices. 

·       Proficiency in MS Office suite

·       Project Tracking: Familiarity with Salesforce.com for project lifecycle
management.
