Accountant

A government organization in the Valley Center/Pauma Valley, CA area is seeking an experienced Accountant for a temporary, full-time assignment. This is a strong opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys hands-on general ledger work, full-cycle accounts payable, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close support. The Accountant will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audit readiness, and ensuring accounting activity is completed in accordance with established policies and applicable government accounting practices. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working independently in a structured, mission-focused public sector environment. Key Responsibilities Manage full-cycle accounts payable transactions, including invoice review, coding, documentation, and approval verification. Prepare and post journal entries while supporting general ledger activity and accurate financial recordkeeping. Perform bank, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed. Assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities, including supporting schedules and documentation. Maintain organized financial records and assist with audit preparation and documentation requests. Support financial reporting, accounting projects, and compliance with established accounting policies and procedures. Compensation and Benefits Pay: $30 to $37 per hour, depending on experience. Schedule: Monday through Friday, full-time. Job Type: Contract/Temporary. Location: Valley Center/Pauma Valley, CA. Required Qualifications and Skills Manage accounts payable, general ledger activity, journal entries, and account reconciliations. Support month‑end close, year‑end close, audit preparation, and financial reporting. Maintain accurate accounting records and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner. 3 to 5 years of accounting experience, preferably as an Accountant, General Ledger Accountant, or similar role. Strong knowledge of general accounting principles and full-cycle accounting processes. Hands‑on experience with accounts payable, general ledger, journal entries, reconciliations, and month‑end close. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including PivotTables and VLOOKUP. Experience using accounting or ERP systems. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
