Accounts Receivable Specialist

Account Receivable Specialist Hospice of Southern Illinois is a not‑for‑profit, community‑based hospice that provides compassionate end‑of‑life care to patients and families. This position is located in the Belleville, IL office. Position Summary Responsible for accurate and timely billing, claims management, and accounts receivable for Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance plans. Works closely with finance, admissions, medical records, and clinical teams to resolve billing issues and ensure proper payment. Key Responsibilities Process and file claims electronically and manually, addressing recalculations and resubmissions as needed. Reconcile patient accounts, post payments and adjustments, and maintain accurate general ledger journal entries. Monitor and submit required re‑certifications and benefit period documentation for Medicare and Medicaid. Utilize billing systems such as Suncoast, Great Plains, Direct Data Entry, Medi, Medicaid HMO portals, and Claims Management Pro. Identify and resolve claim issues through follow‑up with payors, and collaborate on process improvements. Maintain current knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid regulations, and administer Medicare Notice of Elections and Medicaid Notices of Elections. Document timesheet entries and manage paid time off requests in the online system. Adhere to hospice core values and maintain high standards of teamwork, communication, and reliability. Qualifications High school graduate required; associate’s degree preferred. Three (3) years of accounts receivable experience, preferably in a healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing. Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities independently. Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Proficient computer skills and comfort with healthcare billing software. Benefits Hourly wage: $23.47, full‑time, 40 hours per week.
