Staff Backend Engineer

We're working with a fast-growing fintech infrastructure startup building the technology that enables seamless money movement between traditional finance and crypto. They're looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to take technical ownership of core infrastructure powering payments, settlement and transaction routing across multiple blockchains and payment providers. This is a hands‑on senior IC role with significant influence over architecture, technical direction and engineering standards. You'll be responsible for Architecting and building high-performance, low-latency backend systems Designing scalable APIs and distributed services for payments and transaction processing Solving complex engineering challenges around transaction routing, settlement, security and reliability Driving technical decisions and setting engineering standards across the backend Working closely with product and engineering teams to design and deliver new infrastructure Mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership without direct management responsibilities What they're looking for Extensive experience building and scaling production backend systems Deep understanding of distributed systems, API design, databases and cloud infrastructure Proven experience owning complex technical architecture and driving engineering decisions Strong track record of delivering reliable, high-performance systems at scale Previous experience operating at Staff level or equivalent technical scope Comfortable working hands‑on in a fast-moving startup environment Bonus points for experience with payments infrastructure, financial systems, blockchain integrations or event‑driven architectures. Crypto experience is not essential, but experience building complex, high‑availability infrastructure is.
